New Delhi: India is rapidly progressing towards becoming a global healthcare hub. It will now be easier and more accessible for foreign nationals to obtain medical treatment in India. The central government has further strengthened the “e-Medical Visa” for travelers traveling specifically for medical purposes and the “e-Medical Attendant Visa” for their attendants.
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat confirmed this in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. He explained that the government aims to promote medical tourism and remove obstacles in the travel process for foreign patients.
For the convenience of foreign patients, the Ministry of Commerce has released a special portal ( www.indiahealthcaretourism.com ).
-
What’s on offer? This portal brings together all the official information on accredited hospitals, wellness centers, and visas.
-
Accurate information: The Ministry of Tourism has also shared the link of this portal on its websites so that tourists do not have to wander around.
The government is not only focusing on paperwork, but also improving facilities on the ground. Through schemes like “Swadesh Darshan” and “Prasad,” the central government is providing financial assistance to states. The primary objective is to develop better infrastructure and tourism facilities around hospitals.
-
Fast Visa: With e-Medical Visa, what used to take weeks will now be done in days.
-
Attendant Support: A separate visa category for the person accompanying the patient.
-
Transparency: Eliminates middlemen through an official portal.
