The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in all cases registered in Uttar Pradesh over his alleged derogatory tweet. The bench directed the dispensation of the SIT set up by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe the FIRs registered against Mohammad Zubair.
Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Surya Kant and Justice A. s. Bopanna said Zubair would be released on bail in all the cases registered in Uttar Pradesh after he furnished a surety of Rs 20,000 before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the capital’s Patiala House court.
The Supreme Court handed over all the cases registered against Zubair in Uttar Pradesh to the Delhi Police for investigation on charges of hurting religious sentiments and clubbed them with the existing FIR registered by a special cell of Delhi Police.
