In light of the deteriorating situation in Iran, the Indian government has issued a new travel advisory for its citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that Indian citizens should avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice. The advisory was issued on Monday.
The Ministry of External Affairs has urged Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin living in Iran to exercise utmost vigilance. The advisory specifically cautions against any demonstrations, protests, or crowded areas and to constantly monitor local conditions. It also urges regular adherence to information posted on the Indian Embassy in Tehran ‘s website and social media platforms.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also urged Indian nationals living in Iran on resident visas who have not yet registered with the embassy to do so immediately, making it easier to contact them in case of any emergency.
It is noteworthy that large-scale protests are taking place in several Iranian cities against the rapid fall of the national currency, the rial. Violent clashes between security forces and protesters have been reported during these demonstrations. Deaths have also been reported in some provinces, further escalating the situation.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has taken a tough stance on Iran. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to the White House from Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Trump said the US is closely monitoring the situation in Iran. He warned that if the Iranian government resorts to violence to suppress protests and civilians are killed, the US could respond strongly.
However, Trump did not specify the nature of the US’s potential response. He simply stated that all options are being considered and the situation is being continuously monitored. Given the current circumstances, the Indian government’s advisory is considered crucial for the safety of Indian citizens.
