Indian Sufi Foundation’s positive response to the Wakf Amendment Bill

Kashish Warsi, president of the Indian Sufi Foundation, has praised the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and urged the Muslim community to read it thoroughly so that they are fully aware of its various implications.

The bill was passed after extensive discussion in the Lok Sabha, where the opposition opposed it, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies supported it and said that the bill would bring improvement and transparency in the functioning of the Waqf Boards.

Mr. Warsi said that the presentation by Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that this bill is not against the Muslim community, but is aimed at poverty alleviation and welfare of the community. He said, “I praise the government for its passage in the Constituent Assembly and it is clear from Amit Shah’s words that this bill has nothing against the Muslim community. I appeal to Muslim brothers and sisters to read this bill themselves. Some political parties are trying to scare Muslims, but it is now becoming clear who is actually with them.”

Warsi expressed hope that the bill would be accepted in the Rajya Sabha as well. In the Lok Sabha, it was passed with 288 votes in favour and 232 against.

The Bill has been introduced to amend the Waqf Act, 1995 to improve the management and administration of Waqf properties, simplify the registration process and enhance transparency and accountability through digital technology.
