Jhajjar and Delhi-NCR region shaken by earthquake

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 was recorded in Haryana’s Jhajjar district at 9:04 am on Thursday. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremors were also felt in nearby areas including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, causing apprehension among citizens.

NCS informed on its official social media handle: “On 10/07/2025 at Time: 09:04:50 IST an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred with Latitude: 28.63 N and Longitude: 76.68 E, while epicenter was in Jhajjar District, Haryana at a depth of 10 km.”

It is noteworthy that earlier on 17 February 2024, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude had hit the Delhi-NCR region at 5:36 am. The epicenter of that earthquake was located 9 kilometers east of Delhi at a depth of only 5 kilometers, due to which citizens came out of their homes for safety.

The important fact is that Delhi is located in a seismically sensitive area and is classified under Seismic Zone IV, also known as “High Damage Risk Zone”. This means that there is always a possibility of moderate to high intensity earthquakes in this region.

According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the region remains vulnerable to seismic risk, which requires the disaster management machinery to remain alert.
