NEW DELHI: A national delegation of senior lawyers representing the Supreme Court and multiple High Courts met with the Delhi Police Commissioner to submit a formal representation against a proposed political rally. The protest, announced by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, plans to lead a 100-strong group toward the Prime Minister’s official residence. The legal fraternity expressed deep concerns that permitting political demonstrations in sensitive VVIP corridors jeopardizes core security architecture and places unnecessary pressure on law enforcement agencies.
In their formal submission, the advocates emphasized that Lok Kalyan Marg and the surrounding precincts form the backbone of national administrative security. They argued that unapproved marches into restricted zones increase the likelihood of security lapses and disrupt public order. The delegation urged the police leadership to strictly enforce existing restrictions and restrict all political demonstrations to designated assembly sites like Jantar Mantar.
The representation highlights growing legal and civic concern over political demonstrations creeping into restricted government zones. By requesting immediate administrative intervention, the lawyers underscored the necessity of safeguarding VIP routes while maintaining established legal channels for peaceful democratic protest.
