Mahayuti Scripts Historic Landslide in Maharashtra MLC Polls, Winning 16 Out of 17 Seats!

MUMBAI: Just ahead of the high-stakes Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections, the ruling Mahayuti alliance has delivered a crushing blow to the regional opposition, securing a historic and spectacular landslide victory. Out of the 17 Legislative Council (MLC) seats representing local authority constituencies, the Mahayuti coalition established absolute dominance by capturing a staggering 16 seats. This devastating defeat has led to the absolute rout of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which completely failed to even open its account in these high-profile elections.

The Mahayuti alliance had already displayed brilliant electoral engineering by securing 6 seats completely unopposed earlier, after which the highly anticipated results for the remaining 11 contested seats were officially declared on Monday (June 22, 2026). Breaking down the seat matrix, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest political force by clinching 11 seats on its own strength. Concurrently, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction of the Shiv Sena secured 3 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) took home 2 seats, altogether routing the opposition across major traditional strongholds like Nagpur, Sangli-Satara, and Solapur.

However, the absolute joy of Mahayuti’s clean sweep faced a brief internal hiccup in the lone seat of Nashik. In a surprise twist, the alliance’s official candidate, Narendra Darade of the Shiv Sena, suffered a narrow defeat against Gokul Gite, a BJP rebel who contested fiercely as an independent candidate and secured 357 decisive votes. This singular upset has triggered immediate internal friction and intense cross-voting allegations within the local ranks, with the defeated Shiv Sena candidate openly pointing to an internal betrayal from local alliance partners.

Nevertheless, from a broader political standpoint and in terms of consolidating ‘Nation First’ legislative bench strength, this massive mandate serves as a crushing blow to the political camps of Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar. Coming at a critical juncture when rumors are rife about 6 of Uddhav Thackeray’s sitting Lok Sabha MPs orchestrating a massive rebellion, this widespread fragmentation of MVA’s internal vote bank during the MLC polls has sent the opposition into severe panic. This landslide victory firmly establishes that the electorate of Maharashtra places its complete faith exclusively in Mahayuti’s developmental agenda.
