Six people drowned during Ganpati immersion in Haryana’s Mahendragarh and Sonipat districts on Friday evening. During immersion in the canal in Mahendragarh, four youths died in the canal, while in Sonipat two youths died due to drowning in the Yamuna river.
Regarding the incident in Mahendragarh, Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar told reporters that four people have died due to drowning, during the immersion of the seven feet high Ganapati statue, nine youths were washed away in the sharp current of the canal. Out of which four people died, while the other five are hospitalized.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted, “The incident of untimely death of people during Ganpati Visarjan in Mahendragarh and Sonipat districts is sad. We all stand with the families of the deceased in this difficult time. NDRF team has saved many people from drowning.
