KATHMANDU / NEW DELHI: Following widespread devastation caused by heavy monsoon downpours and landslides across Nepal, India has extended specialized technical and humanitarian assistance to support victim identification efforts. A dedicated contingent of Indian forensic scientists and DNA specialists will assist Nepalese authorities in identifying recovered victims and facilitating the return of remains to their families.
Severe terrain disruption and debris in heavily affected districts have complicated conventional visual identification of recovered bodies. In coordination with Nepal’s disaster authorities, senior specialists from premier Indian central forensic laboratories are deploying advanced DNA profiling, specialized sample collection protocols, and forensic matching techniques.
This scientific support complements India’s ongoing humanitarian aid shipments, which include essential medical supplies, relief materials, and emergency response equipment. Officials reaffirmed that under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, India remains committed to providing comprehensive logistical and disaster-recovery support to Nepal.
