Addressing the media following a high-level virtual meeting with the Prime Minister of Norway, PM Modi stated that this new partnership will add a significant dimension to the ties between the two nations. The primary objective of this collaboration is to combat the global challenges of climate change, expand clean energy, and promote sustainable economic growth. The Prime Minister highlighted that Norway possesses extensive experience in environmental conservation, wind energy, and offshore technologies, while India offers a massive market and an unwavering commitment to achieving green goals. The convergence of these two strengths is set to be a revolutionary step toward global environmental protection.
Under this new agreement, both nations have decided to increase joint investments and technical exchanges, focusing primarily on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and the blue economy. PM Modi noted that India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission will receive a massive boost from Norway’s advanced electrolyzer technology and manufacturing expertise. Furthermore, both countries will establish a joint task force for oceanography and plastic waste management to combat pollution in coastal regions. Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund has also agreed to increase its investment in India’s infrastructure and renewable energy projects, marking a highly positive signal for the Indian economy.
From a strategic perspective, this partnership holds immense significance. The Prime Minister emphasized that the growing synergy between India and Norway will help ensure maritime security and adherence to international rules in both the Indo-Pacific and Arctic regions. During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on global geopolitical situations and pledged to strengthen cooperation at multilateral forums. PM Modi expressed confidence that the ‘Green Strategic Partnership’ will not only create new commercial opportunities for industries and startups in both nations but will also pave the way for a cleaner and safer planet for future generations.
