No plans to privatize railways: Government of India

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has again said that there is no plan to privatize Indian Railways. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the management of railway operations will not be given in private hands. He said that it is not possible to do so as the government gives about 55 per cent concession to passengers which would not be possible for private companies.

The Railway Minister said that projects related to the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train are in progress. The construction work of pillars, depots, stations and bridges is in progress. He said that the government is paying more attention to strengthening the infrastructure, development of indigenous technology and modernization of Indian Railways.

On plans to further improve railway stations, Vaishnav said the Prime Minister was keen to see stations as city centers where local products would be available.
