Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed Parliament on Friday that over 2000 trains were canceled between June 15 and June 23 due to nationwide protests against the “Agneepath scheme” for short-term recruitment in the Armed Forces. He said that between June 15 and June 23, 2132 trains were canceled due to protests across the country against the Agneepath scheme.
“However, during the period from June 14, 2022 to June 30, 2022, refund of about Rs 102.96 crore was given due to cancellation of train due to protest against Agneepath scheme. In addition, there was a loss of Rs 259.44 crore to railway property due to the protests.
There were massive protests in many parts of the country against the recently launched Agneepath scheme for army recruitment and damage to railway property.
