An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is currently visiting Panama. On Thursday, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero expressed his unequivocal support for India’s resolve against terrorism in a crucial meeting with the delegation.
The meeting was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Panama City. This is an important step in India’s global efforts aimed at ensuring international support against cross-border terrorism. Tharoor described the meeting as “constructive and useful” on the social media platform X.
The delegation comprises members from various political parties, including Shambhavi of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Sarfaraz Ahmed of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Milind Murli Deora of Shiv Sena, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya of BJP and GM Harish Balayogi of Telugu Desam Party. This diverse representation reflects India’s national consensus on the issue of terrorism.
Besides the President, the delegation also held talks with Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha and Deputy Minister Carlos Hoyos. The discussions focused on Operation Sindoor and India’s resolve to combat Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
Former Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who is part of the delegation, noted that President Mulino “underlined Panama’s support for India and opposition to terrorism.”
During the visit, the delegation paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the University of Panama and planted a mango tree in his memory. Members of the Indian diaspora community were also present on the occasion, who interacted with the delegation.
The visit is an important part of India’s diplomatic initiative to garner international support for its campaign against terrorism.
