Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated National Democratic Alliance candidate Draupadi Murmu on her victory in the presidential election and said a tribal-born leader belonging to a remote part of eastern India would be elected as the President during the Amrit Festival of Independence. India has created history.
In a series of tweets after Murmu’s victory was announced, Prime Minister Modi said his tenure as MLA, minister and governor of Jharkhand was “excellent”. “I am sure she will be an outstanding President who will lead from the front and strengthen India’s development journey,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that Draupadi Murmu’s life, her early struggles, her service and her outstanding success inspire every Indian. “She has emerged as a ray of hope, especially for the poor, downtrodden and backward,” he said.
