New Delhi/Jind: July 17, 2026, marks the beginning of a new, rigorous and historic golden era in the history of Indian Railways and Green Mobility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a high-profile tour of Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab, where he will solemnly flag off the country’s first indigenously built Hydrogen Fuel Cell-powered train .
Flagged off from Jind Railway Station in Haryana, this Green Train will run at breakneck speed between Jind and Sonipat (89 km route) . During this triangular tour, PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for mega development projects worth approximately ₹26,800 crore in all three regions , which will transform the entire infrastructure landscape of North India.
According to official technical inputs from the Ministry of Railways, this hydrogen passenger train, designed and integrated in India, operates on a completely zero carbon emission system, emitting only water vapor instead of smoke. This state-of-the-art 10-coach train is the world’s longest on a broad gauge platform and one of the most powerful hydrogen trains with a 3,200 HP propulsion system . To efficiently refuel this historic train, the country’s first dedicated hydrogen refueling station and chiller plant with a capacity of 3,000 kg has been installed in Jind. With this rigorous launch, India joins the elite group of select global countries like Germany, Japan, the US, and China that have operational hydrogen train networks.
