Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision in the Gujarat riots case and said those who made politically motivated allegations should apologise.
The apex court yesterday dismissed Zakia Jafri’s plea challenging the acquittal of then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and several others by the Special Investigation Team in the 2002 Gujarat riots case.
Shah said that the court has ruled that the riots after the Godhra train was set on fire were not pre-planned but broke out at the same time. He insisted that every effort was made to bring the situation under control at that time.
There was no delay on the part of the government and the army was called by the third watch. Mr Modi quietly faced false charges for 19 years because of the lengthy legal process.
