Republic Day 2025: 942 personnel to be awarded gallantry and service medals, 5 posthumously

The central government has announced to honour a total of 942 employees with bravery and service medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2025. These employees include personnel from police, fire service, home guards, civil defence (HG&CD) and correctional services.

Out of this total, 5 personnel have been awarded gallantry medals posthumously. These dedicated personnel include Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Himayun Muzammil, Head Constable Girijesh Kumar Udde of Border Security Force, Constable Sunil Kumar Pandey of Central Reserve Police Force, Head Constable Ravi Sharma of Sashastra Seema Bal and Selection Grade Fireman Satish Kumar Raina.

According to the finer details, a total of 95 gallantry medals have been distributed. Out of these, 28 personnel are from Naxal-affected areas, 28 from Jammu and Kashmir, 3 from North-East and 36 from other areas. Out of these 95 gallantry medals, 78 have been awarded to police service and 17 to fire service personnel. The purpose of gallantry medals is to recognise personnel who have shown exceptional courage in protecting life and property, preventing crimes or apprehending criminals.

The President’s medals have been awarded to a total of 101 employees, including 85 from the Police Services, 5 from the Fire Services, 7 from the Civil Defence and Home Guard Services, and 4 from the Correctional Services. These medals have been given to employees who have shown excellence in their field.

Additionally, Meritorious Service Medals (MSM) have been awarded to a total of 746 personnel. These include 634 Police Services, 37 Fire Services, 39 Civil Defence and Home Guard Services, and 36 Correctional Services personnel. The MSM is intended to recognise the service and dedication of employees who have discharged their duties with excellence for the security and welfare of the nation.
