Salman Rushdie’s health is improving. Today he was taken off the ventilator. He was attacked in New York. Rushdie was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
His spokesman, Andrew Wyllie, said Rushdie was on a ventilator hours after surgery and was unable to speak as of Friday evening. Hadi Matar, 24, a resident of Fairview, New Jersey, pleaded not guilty to the charges of attempted murder and assault in court on Saturday.
US President Joe Biden said in a statement that he and First Lady Jill Biden were shocked and saddened by the attack.
