Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is rapidly progressing towards becoming a developed and self-reliant nation. He said that with the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” India is not only pursuing its own development but is also playing an active role in global welfare.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Chouhan stated that social welfare is the focus of the government’s policies. He said India is constantly considering how it can contribute to the welfare of the global community.
Strength in the agricultural sector
Referring to agricultural progress, he said that India now leads the world in rice production . This achievement is the result of rapid agricultural development. He explained that during the “Developed Agriculture Resolution Campaign,” several important issues have emerged, on which the Ministry of Agriculture is working rapidly.
Strict action against substandard pesticides
The Minister said that farmers were complaining about substandard pesticides, which were affecting production. In light of this, work is underway to amend the Pesticide Act and the Seed Act . The government’s objective is to ensure that farmers receive quality inputs without adversely affecting their yields.
Changes in MNREGA
Regarding the MNREGA scheme, he said that the 100 days of employment that was previously available has now been increased to 125 days . This will provide additional income opportunities for farmers and rural laborers and strengthen the rural economy
Initiatives towards poverty-free villages
Chauhan stated that effective implementation of these schemes will help achieve the goal of “poverty-free villages.” According to him, the synergy between agricultural reforms, rural development, and employment schemes will accelerate overall development in rural areas, benefiting both farmers and laborers.
