Six people died in an unfortunate stampede at the famous Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar on Sunday morning. According to initial reports, the stampede was caused by a rumour of electric shock, which has been categorically denied by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation. According to information, a rumour spread that a high voltage wire had fallen on the temple’s walkway, leading to the stampede.
There are two routes available to reach the Mansa Devi temple, which is located on Bilva Parvat. One is by ropeway and the other is by footpath, where the accident took place. The footpath is about 2.4 km long with 1000 steps. The route is steep and it usually takes 30 minutes to reach the temple.
From a safety point of view, visitors are advised to visit the temple in the morning or during less crowded times. Avoid rumors, follow safety rules and contact administrative officials immediately in case of emergency.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered an inquiry into the incident and announced financial assistance for the victim families. Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Currently, SDRF and NDRF teams are engaged in rescue operations at the site. According to the administration, the situation is under control and the crowd has been removed from the site.
