A priest of a temple in Jaipur attempted self-immolation on Thursday morning. According to the police, the priest took this step allegedly out of frustration with the people of the temple trust who were forcing him to leave the temple.
Pujari Giriraj Sharma has suffered up to 80 percent burns and is undergoing treatment at Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Hospital, they said. The Deputy Commissioner of Police said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the priest was being forced to leave the temple by the temple trust. Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, a case has been registered against three-four people.”
The incident is of Murlipura police station area where the priest of the temple set himself on fire by spraying some inflammable material outside the house of former temple committee chairman Moolchand Mann. Police said a forensic team has reached the spot to collect evidence and CCTV footage is being scanned.
