Tried to give citizenship to Hindu-Sikh families through CAA: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said his government has tried to pave the way for granting citizenship to Hindu and Sikh families affected by the Partition through the CAA.

He participated in a function organized at the residence of National Commission for Minorities, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, to commemorate the 553rd birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru Nanak Dev. During this he also participated in special Ardas.

The Prime Minister also said that the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are working like a torch to give a new direction in the difficult phase the world is going through today.

He said, “In memory of the sacrifices made by the people of our Punjab in Partition, the country has started Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day. We have tried to create a way for the partition victims of Hindu-Sikh families by enacting the CAA Act to give them citizenship. During that time many times I got a chance to pay obeisance at Harmandir Sahib.
