UK’s Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passes away at 99

On Friday, Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and he longest-serving consort of any British monarch died. He was 99 years old. Buckingham Palace said in a statement that Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

Prince Philip was the British monarch’s longest-serving consort. He retired from the royal service in 2017 after 69 years of service supporting the Queen.

Prince Philip, according to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, “inspired the lives of countless people.”

“He helped to steer the Royal Family and the monarchy so that it remains an institution undeniably vital to the balance and happiness of our national life,” he said, according to the BBC.
