Uttarakhand government will demolish unsafe buildings in Joshimath

Uttarakhand government has decided to demolish unsafe buildings in Joshimath. The city, which is facing the problem of land subsidence, is divided into three zones. One of these is the danger zone, the second is the intermediate and the third is the completely safe zone. Zones have been divided based on the size of the potential threat. This step was taken after Joshimath was declared a disaster prone area.

According to the Chamoli District Disaster Management Authority, 603 buildings in the city have developed cracks so far. Chief Secretary to Chief Minister R. Meenakshi Sundaram has said that the buildings which have suffered the most damage will be demolished. He said that the administration is surveying the danger and intermediate areas. Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana gave information about the latest situation there.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Prime Minister has assured all possible assistance to the state. He said that the Prime Minister is regularly taking information about the situation in Joshimath. After 9 corporation areas or wards of Joshimath were declared as submergence areas, Chief Minister Dhami said that he has appealed for collective efforts for rescue in this hour of crisis.
