World Trade Centre Mumbai welcomes India-EU Free Trade Agreement, a major opportunity for MSMEs and startups

The Mumbai-based World Trade Centre (WTC) has welcomed the announcement of the much-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union. Vijay Kalantri, President of the WTC , said the agreement has the potential to reshape the global trade landscape and make supply chains more robust and reliable.

According to Vijay Kalantri, this agreement will open up new opportunities, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) , startups , and large industries. He said that this partnership between India and the European Union could be considered one of the largest trade partnerships in the world.

He explained that this agreement will connect the markets of nearly two billion people , representing approximately a quarter of global gross domestic product (GDP) and nearly a third of global trade . Therefore, this agreement will not be limited to bilateral trade but will also have a profound impact on the international trading system.

Kalantri emphasized that this FTA could serve as the cornerstone of a new global trade architecture. According to her, this framework will promote a seamless , sustainable, and future-ready trading system. It will also boost investment, technological cooperation, and innovation between India and Europe.

The World Trade Center believes this agreement will diversify supply chains, reduce trade barriers, and facilitate access to new markets for companies in both regions. According to experts, this initiative is an important step toward strengthening stable and long-term trade relations during a time of global economic uncertainty.
