It was a big set-back of sorts for the anti-BJP block when AAP decided to go solo in next year’s General Election.
Recently Congress Working Committee led by Rahul Gandhi took a resolution that they will make an anti-BJP block with the help of non-align BJP parties. To give this resolution a fare passage the committee also sought support of the SP and the BSP in Uttar Pradesh.
Just days after this resolution were taken; a big blow came from Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chairman Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal informed that his party will go alone in coming days. The party spokesperson Gopal Rai added, “Our party will contest in all seven seats in Delhi independently in the 2019 general election.”
After this comment, former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit opined that Congress does not have an alliance with Kejriwal led-AAP.
An AAP sources confirmed that they are preparing to fight from all the 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. He said, “We will fight to ensure Delhi develops as they are showing a step-motherly treatment to the people of Delhi, and the attempt to stall work in the capital”. He further added that Kejriwal feels no party under the ‘Maha Gatbandhan’ is corruption-free, and they do not have basic contribution in Nation’s progress.
Expert believe that AAP’s main agenda is to make an anti-corrupt society. They rose as a major political party when Congress led UPA government, and Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi were alleged in various scams. So, Congress is their announced rival. Only for this reason to keep Kejriwal’s image clean his party has decided to fight it alone.
On the other hand Non-BJP block are desperately looking for a Prime Ministerial candidate. Their buzz is to project an ‘Iron Lady’ like Indira as the candidate for the position of head of the nation this time. Recently Lalu Yadav’s son and RD leader Tejaswi Yadav had suggested that Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati could be considered for the top job. While the candidature of the two women leaders, who have proved their mantle in the world of politics, was still a matter of conjecture, Janata Dal (Secular) supremo HD Deve Gowda cleared the air and zeroed in on two names from his side-TMC Chief and BSP supremo.
HD Devegowda said, “Most welcome if Mamata is projected as PM. Indira Gandhi ruled for 17 years. Why should we (men) alone become PM? Why not Mamata or Mayawati?”
