Every day we come across a new angle of the political slugfest between the Congress and the BJP, which has gained more prominence ever since Rahul Gandhi coveted the throne of Congress President. With the Congress demonstrating a lull performance in the recently concluded assembly elections at Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, all it has got to its rescue is launching slander and verbal attacks in all forms for the BJP to flounder for the forthcoming assembly elections in 8 states and the mega elections in 2019.
We all know that Amethi is the traditional bastion of the Gandhi family and keeping with the legacy, Rahul Gandhi emerged a winner from this constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
But with the BJP coming to power in Uttar Pradesh, things have gradually turned bitter for Rahul Baba, ever since the Congress lost to BJP by 1000 votes in the Amethi by polls. With such a downturn, the party seriously needs to figure out a hard-line stance to revamp its image in its traditional constituency.
The Congress was routed even in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections where it lost six out of 10 assembly seats to BJP.
Rahul Gandhi was defeated in all 5 assembly seats from Amethi constituency comprising of Amethi, Tiloi, Jagdishpur, Salon and Gauriganj, while Sonia Gandhi won only two seats from her Rae Bareilly constituency-Rae Bareilly and Harchandpur and lost in Sareni, Bachhrawan and Unchhahar.
But come what may, Rahul still remains the undisputed poster boy for Congress and a recent election promotional poster aimed at the 2019 elections speaks volumes about the ongoing swordfight between the Congress and BJP.
A poster mimicking Rahul Gandhi as Ram and Narendra Modi as Ravana has created furore in the political circles. The poster is Congress party’s theatrics to gain popularity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections putting Narendra Modi in a poor light.
In reaction to Congress’ ridiculous action in trying to bring Rahul Gandhi to the forefront to gain political mileage, the BJP’s Surya Prakash Tiwari launched an FIR against Congress leader Rama Shankar Shukla for this political misconduct.
The poster clearly depicts Rahul Gandhi as Lord Rama wielding an arrow and pointing it towards Narendra Modi with ten heads as Ravana.
The poster whimsically reads “Rahul roop mein bhagwan Ram ka avatar, 2019 mein ayega Rahul Raj. (Rahul is the incarnation of Lord Ram, Rahul Raj will be seen in 2019).”
The poster catches fancy ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to his constituency ever since he assumed the status of Congress party chief where he will participate in a road show that will stop by in seven places in Amethi. Rahul received a grand welcome from party workers, then he headed towards Salon via Rae Bareilly to address a public gathering.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reacted sharply to the Congress President’s slapstick propaganda to pull the votebank in Amethi saying, “Congress chief should shun ‘negative politics’, and instead focus on development. See the plight of his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi nursed by four generations of Nehru-Gandhi family,” he said, “My advice to Rahul is that he should focus more on politics of development.”
While Rahul Gandhi received a warm welcome splattered with flowers, horses and elephants, there was a sarcastic slant to his welcome which caught attention. At Salon and Parsadepur, the crowd greeted him with poster saying, “Amethi ke lapata sansad ka swagat. Bachhon ke vidyalaya ki jameen apne niji trust ke liye harapne wale sansad ka swagat .(Welcome Amethi’s missing legislator.Welcome legislator, who took the land of a school for his own trust).”
Senior BJP leader and UP cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma fumed at Rahul Gandhi saying that the Prime Minister has been “denigrated” in the posters, seeking an apology from the Congress chief for such an “insulting poster” which is against the national interest.
