On Monday Dr. Sambit Patra from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mocked Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s fast at Rajghat as a “Mithyagrah” (Falsehood).
In the press conference, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra ridiculed the opposition party’s nation-wide fast against the alleged caste violence and communalism issues. He mentioned that its leaders had come to the Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial to talk about non-violence but the presence of Kumar and Tytler exposed the party’s “real violent” face.
Sambit Patra mentioned that “The Congress has fallen into its own trap. What we have seen from Rahul Gandhi today is not a fast but the farce of a fast. It was an attempt by his party to fast-track his politics to burnish his credentials despite people rejecting him time and again”.
Taking a jibe at Gandhi over his remarks on BJP government over Dalit issues, Patra asked if he had skipped even one meal when anti-Dalit violence had happened in places like Mirchpur and Jhajjar. At that time Congress was ruling the government.
He also cited some figures of anti-Dalit violence in last five years of the Congress rule. It was in the poll-bound Karnataka when the state had reported 9,080 crime cases against the community. More than 358 Dalits were killed. RaGa should tell them when he plans to sit on a fast against crimes against Dalits in Karnataka.
Further, another BJP spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri brought up the Congress’ ill-treatment of Dalit icon Bhimrao Ambedkar. Also, he mentioned that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has been working overtime to fulfil Ambedkar’s dreams. BHIM app is one of the examples of those works.
Earlier during a joint press conference by BJP had stated, how Congress delayed in honouring deserving personalities like Dr. Bhim Rao with Bharat Ratna Award.
As per the states mentioned by BJP Minister Ravi Shankar, “Dr. Bhim Rao dies in the year 1956 and he got Bharat Ratna in 1989.
He also mentioned that “It is because of bad behaviours with Dalits which caused the need for reservation. So, just because of the political gain, the opposition is playing the caste politics”.
As a BJP spokesperson, he also accepted that SC/ST, Dalits are backward classes, so there comes no provision of creamy layer.
Likewise, Sardar Patel died in the year 1950 and he got Bharat Ratna in 1991 during the tenure of PV Narsimharao.
Other such cases include Maulana Azad, who died in 1959 and got Bharat Ratna in 1992.
He also cited the reason behind these delays saying that “those personalities were honoured so late because all three of them were critics of Jawaharlal Nehru”.
In the 2nd joint press conference also, Dr. Sambit Patra came up with similar facts saying, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had ensured that Ambedkar lost his deposit in the first Lok Sabha elections. While Dalits believe in all the peaceful protests, it is the opposition which is causing violence to spur”.
Dr. Patra continued saying that, “the Congress has been “shaken” by Dalits’ growing association of with the BJP”. Dr. Patra and Shastri also mentioned some excerpts from Ambedkar’s resignation letter to quit the Nehru Cabinet in which the Dalit icon had accused the Late PM of devoting his time only for the protection of Muslims.
They mentioned from the letter that, “while Ambedkar was equally committed to protecting Muslims, the Nehru government did not do much to protect Dalits and tribals”.
