Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial on Friday to commemorate the 127th birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the architect of our constitution, a caste abolitionist and one of the torchbearers of democratic India. Built-in shape of an open constitution book, Ambedkar National Memorial is spread over 2 acres at a cost of Rs 100 crores. The building is a modern blend of Buddhist and conventional architecture.
In his keynote address, PM Modi congratulated the 1.32 billion population of Indians on receiving this priceless memoriam in shape of Ambedkar Memorial, also feeling fortunate to present such a unique gift to the nation. Modi feels this is one of the best ways to pay homage to this great leader where people can study his life and contributions for the nation.
He mentioned that after decades the nation has been able to pay its worthy tribute to one of the greatest pillars of democracy, which has evaded it for years.
This memorial built on 26 Alipur road is now forever printed on the map of India.
People visiting here can understand the perspective and principles of Dr. Ambedkar in an appropriate way. This memorial is the symbol of an extraordinary feat of an ordinary human being like Baba Saheb Ambedkar. This building is a reminder of the last significant days of this great leader.
Visitors coming here can come here and research the life and times of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and how he guided the nation to stay on the rightful path of democracy.
This is a pilgrimage of sorts for those who want to study the establishment of Indian democracy and its roots.
This project on Ambedkar Memorial has been pending for a long time since the Congress government, but it was only after BJP came to power that its work was resumed.
Prime Minister Modi went on to state that the message,” Not to whine about scarcity and not to get distracted by influence, is a mantra given by Dr Ambedkar through his life.” This message gives us the power to lead a decent life.
Throughout his life, Baba Saheb Ambedkar has been preaching equality in various forms; equality of honor, equality of law, equality of rights, equality of opportunity, equality of dignity.
He always directed the governments of India to follow the tenets of the Indian constitution irrespective of any caste discrimination. This government has constantly tried to maintain the law and order situation in the country by following the rules of legislation.
It is under Modi government in 2015 that the Prevention of atrocities against SC/ST Act has been strengthened so that cases can be registered under 47 separate crimes against the SC/STs revised from the earlier 22.
He assured that the law which was strengthened by this government will be protected and not tarnished. Under Modi government, the OBC category is getting additional reservations on government jobs.
Modi reminded the nation of the hypocrisy and demagoguery of the Congress government that led us to deviate from the path of honesty that Dr. Ambedkar had shown us.
He felt proud that his government is finally able to implement the pro-minority schemes that Baba Saheb Ambedkar had wished to accomplish during his lifetime.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of Ambedkar Memorial comes at a crucial moment when the Dalits are hell bent against the government’s decision of the amendment of SC/ST Act and it’s alleged negligence in protecting the community.
The inauguration of the memorial comes at the precise moment ahead of the assembly elections in Karnataka scheduled in May where Dalits comprise 25 % of the population with a pent-up anger against the BJP.
Some of the distinguished features of the memorial include musical fountains, a replica of the Ashoka pillar at Sarnath and a 12-foot high bronze statue to convert this into an architectural marvel.
There are also virtual reality shows of Babasaheb giving finishing touches to the Constitution of India.
