Anita Anand of Indian origin has been appointed as the new Defense Minister of Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reshuffled his cabinet a month after his Liberal party returned to power.
Anand will succeed Indian-origin Harjeet Sajjan, long-time Defense Minister, who has been under criticism for his handling of the military rape case.
There is a balanced participation of women members in the new cabinet. Indian-origin ministers Harjeet Sajjan, Anita Anand and Bardish Chaggad, who were part of the disbanded cabinet, emerged victorious in the parliamentary elections held last month.
