“It is a dream come true for me today”: Actor Mithun Chakraborty joins BJP

Actor Mithun Chakraborty joins the BJP much before in PM Modi’s rally began in Brigade Parade Ground rally in Kolkata.

Assembly elections in West Bengal is scheduled to begin on 27 March. The speculations that Mithun would enter the saffron camp to enhance the party in the state were rife.

Chakraborty said during the protest, “Today is a dream come true for me. I had dreamed of getting something large from a small town in North Kolkata named Jorabagan, but I never had the impression that I would have the chance to share a stage with the country’s greatest political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chakraborty said, “I am a Bengali and I believe that everyone who has grown up here is a right across the country,” subtly knocked back at the Trinamool Congress to call the BJP “outsiders.” I pledge to stand up for any citizen in West Bengal to stand up for rights.”

He said to himself, “I’m not ‘Jol Dhora,’ I’m not ‘Bele Bora,’ I’m a pure cobra. You’re going to be finished with a dick. Remember the slogan, Ek chhobole (a little and you’re going to get a picture).”

BJP Secretary General Kailash Vijayvargiya met Chakraborty on Saturday at the former Belgian home. “I talked (Mithun) with him and today he will come. Only after a lengthy debate with him can I make a statement,” said Vijayvargiya.

On Sunday, Vijayvargiya and BJP head Dilip Ghosh handed over the veteran actor the party flag. Prior to this the actor was a member of the Rajya Sabha from the Trinamool Congress, but had quit the Upper House after his name cropped up in the Sharada chit fund scam.
