While speaking at a conference on Kashmir in Mississauga, Bangash revealed, “I can say it to you and I say it with all humility, with great pride that we also have a great role in the production of this report.”
Confessing about lobbying and consultation with officials in Islamabad, Bangash added, “I responded to him after speaking to the foreign office spokesperson in Pakistan, Mr. Nafess Zakaria, who used to be the consul general in Toronto, and he assured that Pakistan would welcome the UN High Commissioner and their representative to Pakistan, and they facilitated their visit.”
The event was also attended by President of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) Sardar Masood Khan. Soon after the UN released its report, India rejected the allegations and questioned the intent behind bringing out such a report. India rejected the report by saying, ‘It is fallacious, tendentious and motivated. We question the intent in bringing out the report. It is selective compilation of largely unverified information.’
India had also taken strong action in United Nation against the report. The UN report had said that Indian security forces have used excess power in Kashmir; killed and wounded thousands civilians till since 2016. The United Nation had called for an international inquiry into alleged violation in the disputed territory.
