#RCB bowlers and #ABDeVillers gave them to a fantastic win over #KXIP.
Bangalore fans finally smile about something, after having an awful season in 2017 and the big loss in their opening match, the RCB – Royal Challenge Bangalore did a fantastic job to win their 1st match of the Indian Premier League season 2018.
This win was a huge win for Virat and his men RCB was simply fantastic yesterday.
First, the bowlers restricted them to a modest score of 155 runs and then AB De Villers played a master class innings to take his team through to the KXIP total.
The toss was won by Royal Challengers Bangalore in this 8th match, they opted to bowl first.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings from the KXIP side and Chris Woakes opened the bowling for RCB.
RCB didn’t start too well, England pacer Chris Woakes was taken to the cleaners in his very first over.
KL Rahul was in good form, in his very first match which was played against the Delhi Daredevils KL hits the fastest fifty in IPL. He scored those runs in 14 balls.
In this match also he was bang on target, he blasted Woakes and scored 16 runs from his first over.
KXIP had got the momentum; they just needed to capitalize on it. The openers batted well and them a flying start.
The game was in the favor of KXIP as the openers added 32 runs in just 3 overs.
All was going the KXIP way, but Mayank Agarwal’s first wicket turned the match to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Mayank was out in the 3rd over; he was out after playing a good supporting role.
Umesh Yadav was the one who picked up his wicket.
When Mayank was batting on 15 runs, he gets a healthy edge on a good length delivery bowled by Umesh Yadav. De Cock took a mind-blowing catch to dismiss Mayank Agarwal.
Umesh Yadav struck once again for RCB, on his second delivery of his third over Umesh picked the important wicket of Aaron Finch. Finch goes without scoring.
He tried to play a flick shot on a length ball and he misses, it hits the pad and he was caught plumb in front. Finchy goes for a golden duck.
The third over was too good for RCB, Yuvraj Singh was also out to Umesh in that same over.
Yuvi hit a lovely boundary and then he got bowled by Umesh Yadav. Yuvi tried to fend the good length ball but misses it completely. Yuvi goes after scoring just 4 runs.
Kings XI Punjab was suddenly on the back foot because of Umesh Yadav. But they had KL Rahul who batted beautifully.
Karun Nair was the batsman in to support KL Rahul, KXIP were searching for a partnership after losing 3 quick wickets in a single over.
These two Karnataka batsmen got together and stabilize the innings with a partnership of 56 runs.
They were aiming for a good score, but KXIP gets a big blow in the 11th over.
Their inform batsman KL Rahul was out.
Washington Sundar was one who broke this crucial stand, KL was playing so well but he played a poor shot and got out. He went for a big heave but didn’t get close to the pitch of the ball. He was caught by Sarfraz Khan who was there in the third man region, he catches it with ease. KL Rahul handy innings ended on 47 runs.
Marcus Stonis and Karun Nair were together to rebuild the innings. But in the very next over Karun Nair also perishes.
Nair played a decent hand, but he couldn’t go the long way. He was clean bowled by Kulwant Khejroliya. Karun decided to go for big shots, he went for a pull shot but misses and the ball goes on to hit the stumps. Karun Nair gets clean bowled for 29 runs.
Axar Patel came in to bat with Marcus Stonis, KXIP needed some runs to challenge the RCB. For that, they needed Stoinis to play a good hand which didn’t happen.
After Nair’s wicket, Stoinis was also out to Washington Sundar. Stoinis came down the track and misses the ball, the ball went straight to the keeper and he was stumped by De Cock behind the stumps, Stoinis scorers only 11 runs.
KXIP were in a spot of bother, they had lost their wickets due to some poor shot selections. They needed to bat the whole 20 overs as skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was the next batsman in.
RCB bowlers kept chipping away with wickets after Stoinis was out Axar Patel was also dismissed quickly. Kulwant Khejroliya took his second wicket in the IPL that wicket came in-form of Axar Patel. He was out after scoring just 2 runs. Axar went to play a flick shot on a full delivery and misses it, the ball went to hit pads that hit on the middle stump. Axar went for the review but it didn’t help his cause. Patel was out after scoring 2 runs.
Skipper Ashwin was the one who held the innings together for KXIP, he batted well but he was not supported well by his members.
RCB bowlers dismissed Andrew Tye very quickly; KXIP reached the 150 run mark because of Ashwin.
Andrew Tye was dismissed by Chris Woakes, Tye went a slog on a length delivery and gets caught by Kohli. Tye could score only 7 runs.
After reaching the 150 run mark, KXIP lost Ashwin; he was short of his ground. Ashwin came down the track on leg break and misses the ball. De Cock does the rest behind the stumps. Ashwin played a good hand he scored useful 38 runs.
The last man to be dismissed from the RCB team was Mujeeb Ur Rahaman, he scored 2 runs and he was out on a short delivery. He went for a pull and top edges it. Chris Woakes takes his wicket.
KXIP were all out to the score of 155 runs in 19.5 overs, the RCB bowlers bowled well. They picked up the wickets at regular intervals. Umesh Yadav picked up 3 wickets with him Chris Woakes, Washington Sundar and Kulwant Khejroliya picked up 2 wickets each and Yuzendra Chahal picked up 1 wicket to his name.
The chase of 156 runs didn’t start well for RCB, they had a bad start. Brendon McCullum was out on the second ball of the innings. He was dismissed by Axar Patel. A slower delivery Brendon wanted to go areal but he ends up slicing it to point. McCullum goes on a duck.
A great start for KXIP, Ashwin was brilliant as a captain in the first over, but they had a job to do, defending 156 runs was not easy.
Kohli came out to bat with De Cock and RCB started the rebuilding process.
After adding 33 runs for the second wicket, Kohli was out in the 4th over. He was clean bowled by Mujeeb for 21 runs, Mujeeb went through the gate of Kholi. Kohli scored just 21 runs.
The next man was AB De Villers, he came in to support De Cock and the two South Africans steadied the RCB ship. They build a partnership of 54 runs and brought the momentum back.
All was going well for RCB; they looked in control while chasing this modest score.
But KXIP didn’t lose hope they broke this partnership and made a good comeback.
They picked up Quinton De Cock and halted the progress of RCB. De Cock was bowled by Ashwin. The off break ball went through the bat and pad of De Cock, he gets bowled. De Cock was out after scoring 45 runs.
Ashwin struck again, RCB lost one more crucial wicket. This time Sarfraz Khan goes without scoring. A Leg break with more bounce makes Sarfaz to edge the ball in the slips. Sarfraz was out on 0.
RCB had lost some momentum after De Villers and De Cock brought them on the right track.
With De Villers was still batting, RCB needed Mandeep Singh to support ABD and chase this target down with no further damage.
A partnership was needed for RCB, ABD and Mandeep struck in and brought RCB closer to the total.
The 56 run stand between these two allowed RCB to come close to the target.
As they were batting it seemed like RCB will chase this off comfortably.
But it was not like that; some more twists and turns were there. RCB lost AB De Villers.
ABD batted so well, he also reached his fifty in style but he couldn’t finish off the game. He was out much before that.
Andrew Tye gave KXIP a good breakthrough, it was short and wide which AB De Villers went for a big shot but he ended up being caught deep point. AB De Villers was out after playing a good knock, he scored 57 runs.
RCB needed 10 runs in 11 balls as Chris Woakes comes out to bat. He and Mandeep take RCB to 150 run mark and then RCB losses Mandeep, he was run out on 22 runs.
5 runs were needed in the last over, Washington Sundar and Chris Woakes were the batsmen for RCB.
But Mohit Sharma couldn’t defend 5 in the last over; the boundary in the fourth ball of the last over from Washington Sundar sealed a win for RCB.
Woakes and Sundar take RCB through to a win.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the game by 4 wickets.
KXIP tried but they had a low target to defend. Skipper Ashwin took 2 wickets to his name with Andrew Tye, Axar Patel and Mujeeb Ur Rahaman picked up 1 wicket each.
Man of the man was awarded to Umesh Yadav for his good bowling. His 3 wickets in a overturned the match towards RCB.
