England will look for some pride and the Aussies will look to hold the trophy with 4-0 win over Root and his men.
England and Australia will start the 2018 with their last battle for the Ashes Series Trophy.
With excellent batting display form the former England Skipper Alastair Cook, England will now want him to continue to play such marvellous innings like he did at the MCG.
England snatched a draw from Australia after Cook marathon batting effort. For the first time in the series England put up a great fight in the Ashes series.
Both the teams gear up for the 5th and the final test match, this test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 04th January to 08th January 2018.
England bowlers also did well to restrict Australia to 327 in their 1st innings. Australia batting power house was going on well but England bowlers came back strongly to bundle out the Aussies for less than 400.
Jimmy Anderson and his partner Stuart Board were very affective for the visitors. This is what England wants from their senior bowling duos. Root will hope that these two will step up for them in the last test at SCG.
Tom Curran also had a good debut for England. His maiden wicket was the number 1 test batsman Steve Smith. This should increase his confidence and this should also help him to his job better.
But the main problem is Moeen Ali; the spin bowling all rounder has been disappointing throughout the series. He has been very poor with ball and bat. England should have some option of replacing Moeen Ali, either Craig Overton can replace him or England can go with the experience of Gray Ballance.
Craig Overton had bowled well in the 2 matches that he has played, his batting skills are better than Ali, If England help Overton with his batting skills than he can become the next Ben Stokes for England.
Gray Ballance is an experienced campaigner; his experience may prove vital for England. If he gets a chance in the playing eleven, than England will have a stronger batting order for the last test.
Joe Root hasn’t been scoring those big daddy hundreds, that is also hurting England. If he stays till the end than England will have a stronger chance of posting 500 plus total on the board, these small contributions form the modern day great isn’t helping England at all.
Root should try look at Cook’s innings in MCG, Cook was the only man who held the England innings together. Every England batsmen good starts but they didn’t convert it well as Cook. This is a huge lesson that Cook gave his team from his knock few days ago.
Root should try and replicate that kind of an innings, this may do well for the visiting team.
Australia on the other hand will again rely on their world number 1 batsman Steve Smith.
It was his innings that allowed Australia to save this game, Steve Smith will want his batsmen to give a improved performance.
In the 1st innings they were going on well, but a sudden collapse hurt Australia. Despite David Warner’s century Australia couldn’t post a big total on the board.
Warner will want to continue his good form; he played well in both the innings. But Bancroft should support Warner well; his lack of runs after the Brisbane test is a concern for Australia.
Shaun Marsh and his brother Mitchell Marsh have been in good nick. Shaun was the hero of the Pink Ball test and Mitchell was the hero of the Perth test.
Both the brothers will want to step up and play well again for their country. Their form will be the key for Australia in this last and final test match.
The Aussies missed Starc in the Boxing Day Test Match, they needed the other bowlers to do the job but they didn’t.
No one was successful in picking up the important wicket of Alastair Cook, that’s what took the game away from the home team.
Australia is missing their strick bowler, but they need to find someone to do the job. In absence of Starc Josh Hazlewood is the bowler who has more experience. He is the key for the Aussies.
Nathan Lyon also holds the key as he is a lone spinner for Australia. His form has been good.
The last time when Australia played at the Sydney Cricket Ground was against Pakistan in 2017. They won the match by 220 runs.
The Aussies scored 538 runs in their 1st innings due to centuries from David Warner, Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw.
In reply Pakistan was bowled out for just 315, Hazlewood picked up 4 wickets and Nathan Lyon picked up 3 wickets.
The Aussies again piled up the score in their 2nd innings, half centuries from Warner, Khawaja and Skipper Smith allowed Australia to score 241 for the loss of just 2 wickets.
Poor Pakistani’s could handle the best bowling attack of Australia. They could manage only 244 runs. Hazlewood again came good with 3 wickets, Lyon was expensive but picked up 2 wickets and Steve O Keefe picked up 3 wickets. This collective effort allowed Australia to beat Pakistan by 220 runs.
England and Australia played their test at SCG in 2014, Australia won the test by 281 runs.
Steve Smith’s 115 runs was the highlight of that innings and Ben Stokes took 6 wickets, that allowed England to dismiss Australia for 326 runs.
But the batting failed for England, the Aussies pacers rattled the visitors for just 155 runs.
Australia managed 276 in their 2nd innings, but England’s batsmen failed yet again. They were dismissed for just 166 runs.
Australia won this match by a huge margin of 281 runs.
Australia has a good record at the Sydney Cricket Ground. They have won 26 matches out of 55 played against England. The visitors have won 22 matches. with 7 matches have ended in a draw.
