Virat and his men wins the Johannesburg Test despite the Pitch Controversy.
India came back strongly after losing the series at Cape Town and Centurion. Kohli and co salvage some pride by beating the Proteas by 63 runs at Johannesburg yesterday.
The Proteas tried to stop the match by saying the Wanders pitch is dangerous to bat on but they had to play this test because India had no such complaints, Kohli urged his team to carry on despite the Such Africans bowlers were on top.
India and South Africa went with full 4 pacers on this wicket, India dropped Ashwin and South Africa dropped Keshav Maharaj.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his comeback after the 1st Test and Andile Phehlukwayo made his test debut for South Africa.
India won the toss and chose to bat first for the first time in the series.
But the openers failed again to provide the start that India were in need of, KL Rahul was the first one to go for a golden duck. He was dismissed by Philander.
Few overs later Murali Vijay also perished to Kagiso Rabada for just 8 runs.
It was Skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara who tried to repair the Indian innings.
Even though the South African bowlers were on top but classy half centuries from Kohli and Pujara helped India to make a decent comeback on a pace and bouncy wicket.
India needed to carry on the momentum that Kohli and Pujara build in, they shared an 84 run partnership to guide India through the innings.
But when Kohli got out for 54 runs, the momentum also got shifted. The partnership was broken when Virat was dismissed by Lungi Nigidi.
Ajinkya Rahane made his comeback after missing the first two tests. He didn’t use this opportunity. His poor run in test cricket continued and his wicket pushed India more in trouble. Rahane was out for just 9 runs.
After that The New Wall Pujara also hung his boots, he was dismissed after reaching his milestone of 50 runs.
Parthiv Patel proved that he cant be the obvious choice of a wicket keeper batsman for India. He played two tests but didn’t play well at all. In this test, he scored only 2 runs.
Hardik Pandya had gone very silent with the bat, after his fighting knock of 93 runs at Cape Town his poor form continued in this test too. He again bagged a golden duck in this match.
It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar again who held the Indian innings together, he batted well in Cape Down and in the last test his contribution with the bat was vital.
Ishant Sharma and Mohd Shami fell early, it was Bhuvi’s knock that took India to a decent total. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 30 runs took India to 187 in their 1st innings.
The South Africans bowled really well, the used the pace and bounce from Wanders Pitch to good effect.
Kagiso Rabada picked up 3 wickets, with him Morkel, Philander and Phehlukwayo picked up 2 wickets each and Lungi Nigidi picked up 1 wicket to his name.
South Africa’s 1st innings first innings was destroyed by Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah picked up his maiden 5 wicket haul in test match cricket.
But Bhuvneshwar Kumar was again awesome with the new ball, just like the 1st test he again picked up the two South African openers cheaply.
Dean Elgar managed on 4 and Aiden Markram scored only 2 runs.
Kagiso Rabada batted well as a night watchman, he and Hashim Amla tried to repair the innings with a gusty partnership of 64 runs.
Their partnership was looking good and night watchman was getting set, just than Ishant Sharma broke this stand and dismissed Rabada for 30 runs.
AB De Villers couldn’t play well this time around, he scored only 5 runs.
Skipper FAF also couldn’t continue his good form from the last test match, he was out cheaply for just 8 runs.
Quinton De Cock continued his poor form in the last test match too, he was out for just 8 runs.
Vernon Philander was the man who supported Hashim Amla well.
Unfortunately for the hosts Hashim Amla didn’t go a long way. He was out after scoring 61 runs.
Vernon Philander also perished after Amla’s wicket, he was out for 35 runs.
The lower order somehow managed to go past the Indian total of 184.
Phehlukwayo and Morkel scored 9 runs, with the last man Nigidi was out for 0.
South Africa had an advantage of 7 runs, they were bowled out for 194 runs in their 1st innings.
Bumrah was the star of India; he picked up 5 wickets on his maiden test tour. He was well supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he picked up 3 wickets with Ishant Sharma and Mohd Shami picked up 1 wicket each.
India second innings was full of fight back, no one scored a half century but they batted like number 1 team.
Parthiv Patel was sent as an opener in the 2nd innings. But he failed there also, he was out for just 16 runs.
Lokesh Rahul was the number 3 batsman for India, but he too didn’t play well. He was also out on the same score as Parthiv had.
For the first time in this series, Murali Vijay looked good, after Pujara’s early fall he and Skipper Kohli tried to snatch a partnership.
But Vijay didn’t use this opportunity to convert the start, he was dismissed for 25 runs.
Kohli was again played well in the second innings, but he was out early this time. In 2nd innings he managed 41 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane come out of low scores, he played well and was the one who held the innings after Kohli was dismissed.
But Hardik Pandya again disappoints with the bat, this time he scored only 4 runs.
Bhunveshwar Kumar is the one who can be the pace bowling all rounder that India is searching in over rated Hardik Pandya.
Bhuvi has batting skills and he has proved that many times, in the second innings also he played well.
Bhuvi and Rahane saw India through the 200 run mark, but Rahane was out after scoring well made 48 runs.
After Rahane was out, Bhuvi shared another partnership with Mohd Shami. India’s lower order batted better than the openers and some of the middle order batsmen.
Shami scored crucial 27 runs and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s innings was also ended on 33 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah was the last man dismissed for a duck.
India was all out for 247 runs in their 2nd innings, the visitors had set a target of 254 runs for South Africa.
The Proteas bowled well again, Philander, Morkel and Rabada picked up 3 wickets each with Nigidi picked up 1 wicket.
Chasing 254 for a series whitewash win, the hosts again started off poorly.
Mohd Shami picked up Markram for just 4 runs.
But Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla repaired the innings with ease.
Their partnership of 119 runs threatened to take the game away from India.
Dean Elgar’s aggressive batting and Amla’s classy innings looked like the South Africans were prepared to chase this target.
But the wicket of Hashim Amla did the trick for India. Ishant Sharma was the one who broke the partnership and gave India a vital breakthrough.
After Amla was dismissed, the huge collapse of South African batting unit gifted India a win.
The main batsmen from South African couldn’t support Elgar.
ABD, Skipper Faf, Quinton De Cock and Vernon Philander were dismissed very early by the Indian pacers.
Elgar stood there with no support, the lower order also was undone by the pace battery of India.
Morkel, Rabada, Phehlukwayo and Nigidi failed to hang around with Dean Elgar, he was not out on 86 runs and still he was in the losing side.
India bundle out the strong South Africans for just 177 runs.
India’s pace battery did very well to make a strong comeback. At one point of time it looked like South Africa will cruse towards the victory but the Pace bowlers didn’t allow that to happen.
Mohd Shami was the one who restricted the South African batsmen, he picked up 5 wickets and he was well supported by Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah and Ishant Sharma.
Bhuvi picked up 1 wicket and Bumrah and Ishant picked up 2 wickets each.
But Over Rated Hardik Pandya was a total failure in the last two test matches. nor he batted well nor he picked up wickets, India needs to rethink on Hardik Pandya as a pace bowling all rounder in test, Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be trusted for this job instead of Over Rated Pandya.
India won the match by 63 and South Africa won the series 2-1.
Man of the match was awarded to Bhuneshwar Kumar for his vital contribution with the bat and the ball.
Man of the series was awarded to Vernon Philander for his all round skills.
