The 2nd Semi Final of the ICC Champions Trophy will be played between India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston in Birmingham on 15th June 2017.
The team who wins this knock out game will be into the finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
India and Bangladesh will be eyeing to play that final against England or Pakistan, (that result will be known by today).
Both the teams played the warm up match of the ICC Champions Trophy.
India comfortably won that game, it was a great batting display from Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya. Karthik was the top scorer in that game but Dhawan gave the momentum after early dismissal of Rohit Sharma.
Dhawan was out after scoring 60 and Dinesh Karthik was retried hurt after scoring 94 runs. Then it was Hardik Pandya who finished the innings well. He was unbeaten on 80 runs.
Due to solid batting display India posted a huge score of 324 runs in their 50 overs.
Bangladesh weren’t in the game at all, Indian bowlers ran through their in experienced batting line up. Pacer bowlers from India did a great job once again, bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuneshwar Kumar rattled the Bangladeshi batsmen for just 84. Ravichandran Ashwin did a supported role by picking up 1 wicket and services of Ravindra Jadeja were not needed.
Bangladesh lost the warm up game by 240 runs.
Virat Kohli and co will be hoping that Indian batsmen and bowlers will continue that same performance in this match as well.
India had some bowling issues against Sri Lanka, Indian bowlers couldn’t defend 322 against a inexperienced Sri Lankan batting line up. Fortunately everything was in place against South Africa. Indian bowlers bowled out the number 1 ODI side for just 191 runs. That sealed the semi final spot for India.
Batting has been good for India; openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are giving them a good start. Like all the ICC tournaments Dhawan has been in great form. Dhawan is the highest run scorer for India in this Champions Trophy 2017.
Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh are in great touch too. Both played well against South Africa and Pakistan. But failed to deliver against Sri Lanka,
MS Dhoni batted well against Sri Lanka, his 63 run knock guided India to a defendable score. He has played only 1 game as a batsman. It would nice if Dhoni gets higher up the order before the finals.
Kedav Jhadav and Hardik Pandya will play the finishers role for India. Hardik is absolutely great in this job; his 3 sixes of Imad Wassim against Pakistan allowed India to go past the 300 run mark.
Apart from the lost match against Sri Lanka, Indian bowlers have done a decent job in this tournament so far. The pacer bowlers and the 2 spinners are in good form.
For Bangladesh it is the 1st semi final match in the Champions Trophy history.
It is a great moment form them in their cricketing history, but this a crunch match for them as well. They should keep their emotions aside.
Bangladesh is lucky to be in this semi final, they should thank England for beating Australia. It’s because of the hosts that the Bangladeshis are playing the semi final match against India tomorrow.
Bangladesh has big issue to solve before the semi final match. Mortoza and Co will have to think a lot about their batting and bowling.
Apart from the New Zealand where Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah smashed tons, only Tamim Iqbal who has fired for them, Iqbal has played good knock of 128 against England and he fought alone battle against Australia and scored 95 runs.
Rest of the batsmen have failed in this Champions Trophy.
They have weakness in their bowling as well. Their premiere bowler Mustifizur Rahaman hasn’t looked great in these overcast conditions.
Their bowlers have conceded 300 plus runs many times in this tournament. Apart from their game against New Zealand, Bangladesh bowlers have bowled very ordinary in this tournament.
Bangladesh will need their captain to fire in this knock out game. Shabkib AL Hasan and the other batsmen like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Somya Sarkar and Mahmudullah should score runs in this semi final match.
On the hand India will not go with over confidence as they against Sri Lanka. They know what Bangladesh will do if they do that. India should remember what Bangladesh did to them in the 2007 world cup and the 3 match ODI series played in Bangladesh. The Bangla Tigers won that series 2-1.
India will not take Bangladesh lightly but The Indians have an edge over Bangladeshis.
