After dumping West Indies in the ODI series, India will look to end the tour on a high by winning this one off T20 match at Sabina Park at Kingston in Jamaica tomorrow.
Virat and his men will want to be one step ahead of the Windies in this T20 match.
India will look to repeat the performance of the ODI series which the visitors won 3-1.
But India can’t afford to take the T20 Champions lightly, that too in their own backyard.
India should remember that West Indies are the only team to win the T20 world cup twice and the visitors should also remember the semi final match of the World T20 in 2016.
Even though India posted a huge score of 190 plus, West Indies managed to chase it down comfortably. Due to weak bowling and weak fielding efforts India lost that match.
India will be keen to improve their records against West Indies in this shortest format.
- India Vs West Indies head to head in T20s stats –
In 7 T20 matches played so far, India has won only 2 and West Indies have won 4. One match was ended in no result.
- India Vs West Indies in Sabina Park at Kingston in Jamaica –
For the first time India and West Indies will be playing at this venue.
- India Vs west indies in West Indies –
In West Indies both the teams have won 1 match each.
For India it will be very nice to see Shikhar Dhawan performing well again. Dhawan was good in the first 2 ODIs against the West Indies.
From the 3rd ODI Dhawan’s could score a single double digit score.
Like all the formats India will want a good opening start from Dhawan in this T20 match also.
His partner Ajinkya Rahane has been in superb touch right from this tour. He was the man of the series for scoring most runs for India in that 5 match One Day series.
In this one off T20 Rahane’s form will be vital for India.
Skipper Kohli too is in great nick. He played well for his 111 run knock that took India to a series win over West Indies.
In T20s Kohli has the highest averages of all time and he is the number 1 batsmen in the world in this shortest format.
But the middle order is concern for India. Form Yuvraj Singh and some rusty innings of MS Dhoni will worry India a bit.
Yuvi has been struggling to perform since the 1st match of the ICC Champions Trophy. His knock of 53 runs was the last good innings played by him.
Dhoni had played some good hand but one should admit that MS has lost his finishing skills. In the 4th ODI Dhoni couldn’t take India through like the olden days. This might dent the confidence of the former Indian skipper.
Young players like Kedar Jhadav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja should step into this role of finishing the innings.
Kedar Jhadav batted well in the 3rd One Day International but he got limited chances to bat. Same goes with Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya.
In this T20 match all three might step in to bat especially in the later overs.
Will Rishab Pant play in the one off T20 at least? This is the question that might be going through Virat Kohli’s head as well. The youngster should get a game. Pant had a wonderful IPL to get through in this match.
Bowlers are also restricting the West Indian batting line up to low total. Kohli and Co will hope that his bowlers will continue to do the same.
On the other hand West Indies are feeling like home in this one off T20 match and inclusion of Chris Gayle is like icing on the cake for the hosts.
As mentioned earlier West Indies are a dangerous T20 side. They won’t perform like they do in tests and ODIs. T20 cricket is what suits the Windies the best.
But they have tough task ahead, they can’t take India lightly. India may not be the dangerous T20 side but they have players like Kohli, Rahane, Dhawan, Dhoni and Yuvi who can take the game away from the opposition in one second.
West Indies should be aware of this fact. Jason Holder who bowled well in the 4th ODI holds the key for them.
Chris Gayle is another guy for West Indies who can be a threat to India.
Both the teams will play positive brand of cricket and this should be an evenly matched contest.
