Misery for Australia and a gain for Bangladesh, England thrashes the Aussies by 40 runs


Miserable Australia is now officially out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 with New Zealand.

Australia has been unlucky in this edition of ICC Champions Trophy. Their 1st two games were washed out due to rain and yesterdays loss to the hosts England have put the Aussies out of the tournament.

The batting power of Australia just managed 277 runs on the scoreboard after England put them to bat first.

Some fireworks from David Warner and Aaron Finch were expected in this do or die game. After giving a decent start of 40 runs Warner was out on just 21 runs.

Then it was opener Finch and skipper Steve Smith who carried this innings along. They shared a stand 96 runs and were going along nicely.

Star all rounder Ben Stokes provided the vital break though for England.  Finch was dismissed for 68 runs.

Moises Henriques joined skipper Smith unfortunately could hang around after facing 17 balls.

Australia kept on losing wickets at the regular intervals, after Henriques skipper Smith was dismissed after reaching his fifty. Smith scored timely 56 runs to his name. Australia needed him to stay but Mark Wood to his wicket.

It was a big show that helped Australia to get at least a modest total. Glenn Maxwell’s 71 gave the momentum that Australia needed.

Maxwell and Travis Head put a partnership of 58 runs for the 5th wicket and ensured that Australia total goes beyond 250 plus.

After Glenn Maxwell’s good innings of 71 runs, the lower middle order of Australia could hang around with Travis Head.

Players like Wade, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were dismissed very cheaply by by spinner Adil Rashid.

Travis Head was only batsmen who reached double digit score after Maxwell, Finch and Skipper Smith.

England bowlers did a awesome job by keeping the pressure on the Australian batsmen.

Maxwell was a only Australian batsman to hit 2 sixes in that Australian innings.

Mark Wood, Adil Rashid took 4 wickets each and Ben Stokes took 1 wicket. This brilliant bowling allowed Australia to score just 277 runs in their 50 overs.

Chasing Australia’s modest total of 278 runs England had a shocking start.

Alex Hales was dismissed on a duck, Jason Roy’s poor form continued and a rare low score of Joe Root made to Australia believe in their chances.

But a brilliant recovery that helped England in this chase.

Their match winning partnership of 159 runs helped England in a big way.

Morgan was eventually run out for 87 but Star Stokes scored an unbeatable hundred in a pressure situation.

Stokes 102 not out was the highest in the England innings.

But it was rain again which ended the match in 40.2 overs.

England were ahead of Australia’s score, the hosts won the match by 40 runs due to D/L method.

This win sends Australia out of the tournament and Bangladesh enters the last four of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 edition.

Man of the match was awarded to Ben Stokes for his knock of 102 not out.
