#IPL2018 gave a super Sunday for the #MI fans. They defeated #KKR by 13 runs.
MI – Mumbai Indians are back on track with two good wins on the trot, yesterday they defeated KKR – Kolkata Knight Riders and stay in the hunt to seal the playoff spot in this IPL season.
Mumbai Indians had a good outing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Hardik Pandya came good as an all-rounder and gave them a 13 run over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first in the match.
But this decision didn’t work for them as they would have liked, their bowlers were thrashed by the MI openers first and then Hardik Pandya was the one who took MI to a good score.
MI openers Surya Kumar Yadav and Evin Lewis did the job which was expected from them. They shared a 91 run stand for the opening wicket.
This 91 run stand set the momentum towards a big score for Mumbai Indians. The openers batted freely as KKR were in a search of a quick breakthrough.
The breakthrough came for KKR but Lewis had already damaged the KKR bowling, Lewis was picked up by his teammate Andree Russell.
Lewis was out on a slower ball which was full-length delivery, he wanted to go down the ground but he played the shot early and got a thick edge which went straight to Chris Lynn at short third man region. Lewis was out for well made 43 runs.
After this amazing start, Rohit Sharma promoted himself up the order and at the other end, Surya Kumar Yadav was again seen in a full flow.
Surya Kumar has been too sensational for Mumbai Indians this season. He is the one who has batted consistently for them. He scored his yet another half-century in IPL this season.
As Surya Kumar Yadav was going on well, MI needed Rohit Sharma also to come good.
But the skipper was out after playing run a ball knock off just 11 runs.
Hit Man was out to Sunil Narine on a full off-spinner delivery which Rohit couldn’t get underneath it. He got the top edge and he was caught by Rinku Singh.
Hardik Pandya was the one who batted at number 4 instead of in-form batsman Ishan Kishen.
After Rohit had fallen early, it was important for Surya Kumar Yadav to stay with inconsistent Hardik.
Hardik has batted decently enough, but he needed to come good in this match.
Hardik and Surya Kumar batted well for some time, but KKR gave another huge blow to the MI team.
They picked up well set Surya Kumar Yadav and pushed MI on the back foot.
Andree Russell came up with another huge wicket for the Knight Riders, he picked the vital wicket of Surya Kumar.
It was a short delivery which Surya Kumar played and got a thin edge. Surya Kumar Yadav was caught behind by DK for well made 59 runs.
After this wicket, Krunal Pandya came in and he started off well. But he couldn’t go the long way. He was dismissed after guiding MI to 150 run mark.
Krunal was out to Narine on an off-break delivery. Krunal was out for just 13 runs.
Then it was a Hardik Pandya show which took Mumbai to a good total.
Hardik Pandya smashed the KKR bowlers and in the last few overs, he was unbeaten on 35 runs with JP Duminy not out on 4 runs.
Mumbai Indians scored 181 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders pulled things back to some extent but still, they ended up conceding 181 runs.
Sunil Narine and Andree Russell picked up 2 wickets each to their name and rest of the bowlers didn’t get any wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders experimented with their batting and failed miserably in this chase.
Shubham Gill was asked to open the batting with Lynn and Sunil Narine was pushed down the order, this experiment didn’t work for KKR.
After giving a flying start Chris Lynn couldn’t carry on his blazing form. He and Gill added 28 runs in 2.5 overs.
But the wicket of Lynn spoiled it all, Lynn was out to McClenaghan for 17 runs.
Lynn was dismissed on a short delivery which tried to play the pull shot but he ended up hitting straight to Bumrah.
After this start, Robin Uthappa was the next batsmen in for KKR.
He batted well for KKR, but the wicket of Shubham Gill brought MI back in this game.
It was a poor shot from Gill; he was out on the slower delivery. Gill departed for just 7 runs.
Nitish Rana was the next batsman in for KKR, he and Uthappa batted well for some time.
They shared an 84 run stand which brought KKR closer to the target. But the wicket of Uthappa and Rana in consecutive overs brought MI back in the contest.
Mayank Markrande picked up the wicket well set Uthappa for 54 runs.
And the Hardik Pandya picked up the wicket of his ex MI mate Nitish Rana.
Dinesh Karthik was the next batsmen in for KKR, but the wickets of Rusell and Narine didn’t allow KKR to chase down this total.
Dinesh Karthik fought hard but that was not enough for KKR to win his match.
Dinesh Karthik was 36 not out and KKR reached the 20 over mark but they fell 13 runs short of the target.
Mumbai Indian won the match by 13 runs.
MI bowlers were good, they kept them in the hunt and won it in the end.
Hardik Pandya picked up 2 wickets with Bumrah, McClenaghan, Markrande, Krunal Pandya picked up 1 wicket each to their name.
Man of the match was awarded to Hardik Pandya for his all-round performance.
