With India already through to the final of this tri series, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play a virtual quarter final to cement their place in the finals of the Nidahas Trophy.
The 6th Match of this tri series between these two Asian Gaints will be played on Friday 16th March 2018 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.
Bangladesh has lost both the games against India and Sri Lanka has played 1 and lost 1 against India in this Nidahas Trophy.
In the last encounter between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, both the teams batted well but Mushifiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to a remarkable win over Sri Lanka.
Rahim’s unbeaten 72 runs helped the Bangla Tigers to chase down the score given by the Lankans.
Rahim also batted well against India yesterday, but Bangladesh couldn’t cross the line. His gusty 58 runs went in vain.
Bangladesh will want Rahim to play such memorable innings like these in the last two matches of the Nidahas Trophy.
Liton Das missed out in the last game against India yesterday, now he will look to repeat the innings which he played against Sri Lanka in the previous game.
Tamim Iqbal has got some good starts but he didn’t convert them, he will aim to do exactly that on Friday.
Bangladesh can drop Soumya Sarkar, he didn’t play that well to still be in the team, Shakib Al Hasan may replace him in the Bangladeshi squad.
Shakib Al Hasan will play in the last two matches of the Nidahas Trophy, that will certainly increase the confidence of the Bangladesh team.
Shakib will lead the spin department as Mehidy Hasan hasn’t been that impressive for Bangladesh.
Nazrul Islam was the second spinner in yesterday’s game but he also proved to be ineffective in front of the Indian batsmen.
Shakib’s entry will make Bangladesh batting order look deeper. Bangladesh struggled in their batting in both the games against India.
Their star all-rounder is expected to change all that when he faces the Lankans tomorrow. Shakib Al Hasan is the player to watch out for.
Bowling also has been a concern for Bangladesh, only Rubel Hossain picked up 2 wickets in yesterday’s game.
No other bowler supported Rubel, Bangladesh will want Mustifizur to step in the all important game.
Taskin Ahmed should be in for Bangladesh in the last 2 games of this tri series. Taskin can come as a replacement to Nazmul Islam.
Bangladesh needs the batting services of their in-form players like Liton Das, Mushifiqur Rahim and Shabbir Rahaman.
They also need skipper Mahmudullah to fire in this do or die game.
Likely Playing XI of Bangladesh –
Bangladesh should include Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed in their playing XI. They can drop Soumya Sarkar and Nazmul Islam from their squad.
Mahmudullah Riyad (C), Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed and Abu Haider Roy.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be looking to correct their mistakes which did against Bangladesh and India.
Sri Lanka started off really well in the first match of the Nidahas Trophy.
But they failed to continue their winning streak in the last two matches.
The absences of Angelo Mathews and then Dinesh Chandimal have hurt Sri Lanka, but they need their senior players like Upul Tharanga and Thisara Perera to do a better job.
Sri Lanka needs their batting to step up, Kusal Perera did well in the 1st two matches but he failed in the last one.
Kusal Mendis is also in good form, he needs to continue that in this match.
Sri Lanka also needs a good opening stand, Danushka Gunathalika needs to be consistent in that opening position.
Sri Lanka should ask Upul Tharanga to open the innings and drop Gunathalika from this match. He can be replaced with Dhananjaya De Silva in the middle order.
Or Sri Lanka may also try Isuru Udana, the all-rounder.
The middle order is a concern for the hosts, even though the openers are in decent form the middle order batsmen are not in their best of form.
Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Jeevan Mendis should contribute in the last few overs.
Sri Lanka had a good opening stand in their last game against Bangladesh and Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera also batted well for them.
The Lankans were in sight of 250 plus score in that match, but the middle order failed capitalized in the middle overs.
Sri Lanka needs to use this middle overs very wisely, these middle overs are the important ones for the team.
They make a huge difference in winning and losing.
Like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka also has a worry in their bowling.
They started off well against India, but they couldn’t end well.
Chameera, Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Pradeep and Dananjaya needs to start and end well.
Akila Dananjaya picked up 2 wickets in the game against India, his form will be vital for Sri Lanka in this match.
But the fast bowlers weren’t that effective against the Indian batsmen.
Sri Lanka needs to fire in all the 3 departments if they want to play with India in the final match of the Nidahas Trophy.
Likely Playing XI of Sri Lanka –
Sri Lanka may drop Danushka Gunathalika and include Isuru Udana as the middle order batsman.
Upul Tharanga, Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera (C), Suranga Lakmal, Akila Dananjaya, Nuwan Pradeep, Dushmantha Chameera, Dananjaya De Silva and Isuru Udana.
Overall Bangladesh looks the favorites to win this contest.
