Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka Match 12 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 – Preview

A crucial encounter to be played in this ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take on each other with an eye on semi final berth.

This contest will give us the second semi finalist of this edition of Champions Trophy 2017. India is through to the semis by defeating South Africa by 8 wickets yesterday.

This do or die match will be played at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff today (12th June 2017).

Pakistan are coming from a good win against the number 1 ODI side South Africa and Sri Lanka are also coming from a good win against defending champions India.

Both the teams played well in their last match. But now it is a quarter final of this edition of the Champions Trophy. One who wins will go and play the semi finals and one who loses will go home.

Pakistan’s bowling attack looked good against South Africa but they need more fire power in their batting, especially Mohd Hafeez. Hafeez is struggling to bat in these England conditions. Against India he wasted a lot of balls which made the run rate go higher and against South Africa he again struggled to make a good mark that too while chasing a decent target of 220 runs. He needs to step up his game in this crunch game.

Ahmed Sezhad, Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam and Skipper Sarfraz Khan should be consistent in this quarter final match too.

Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohd Amir and Junaid Khan bowled well against South Africa. Against Sri Lanka it seems their bowlers might destroy their in experienced batting line up.

But they can’t take the Sri Lankan team lightly. Sri Lanka are also unpredictable just like Pakistan.

Sri Lanka’s bowling form is in a spot of bother. The Lankans conceded over 300 runs against India and their bowlers got the proper pasting from the South African batting line up.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack looks weak in this competition. Bowlers like Lasith Malinga,  Thisara Perera, Sekkuge Prasanna, Nuwan Pradeep and Suranga Lakmal should fire against Pakistan in this do or die match.

Sri Lanka’s chances will depend on how these bowlers bowl. Fortunately their batting clicked against India. Young batsmen like Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka took the responsibility and chase down the record score for win.

Sri Lanka will also want some overs from their skipper Angelo Matthews. He didn’t bowl against India due a injury. Due to this injury he was out of their first game against South Africa.

But now he should be fit enough to bowl. Sri Lanka need some overs from Angelo Matthews.

Batsmen like Dinesh Chandimal, Thisara Perera and Chamara Kapugedara didn’t bat well against South Africa and didn’t get a chance against India. Now these batters will want to make this chance count.

Sri Lankan batsmen have huge task of facing Mohd Amir, Junaid Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohd Hafeez and Imad Wasim. This bowling line up for Pakistan is very good for Sri Lankan batsmen.

The Lankans will need to play out of skins to win this contest.
