India will take on Sri Lanka for the 2nd ODI, after losing the 1st One Day Rohit Sharma will be keen to lead his side for victory.
The second One Day International between these two Asian Giants will be played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on 13th November 2017.
The visitors will look to seal the series at Mohali, Sri Lanka will want to grab this golden opportunity and win their first ever ODI series on the Indian soil.
The Pace bowling of Sri Lanka did the trick for the visiting team, in the 1st ODI Suranga Lakmal destroyed the batting powerhouse of India.
India was on a verge of getting bowled out to their lowest ODI score. But some resistance from India’s veteran MS Dhoni didn’t allow that to happen.
India will look to solve their batting issues, for India facing pacers on pace and the bouncy track is still a problem. This a major concern for India as they will be touring overseas form next month.
India’s weak line has been their batting; they need their stand in Captain Rohit Sharma to step up. Rohit didn’t have a ideal start as captain at Dharamsala.
They also need services from their senior opener Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan has been amongst the runs but he too looks vulnerable on wickets which offers pace and bounce.
Youngsters like Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer should use their chances. India may also think of Ajinkya Rahane in the middle order position.
Even though Rahane had a poor test series, his experience will matter for the inexperienced middle order. Manish or Shreyas may replace Rahane for the 2nd ODI at Mohali.
But India has good experience in form of Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni. MSD was the savior for India at HPCA Stadium on Sunday. Unfortunately Karthik couldn’t use his experience. The Tamil Nadu batsman should bat well at Mohali tomorrow.
India will not make the mistake of taking Sri Lanka’s bowlers lightly.
Rohit Sharma’s real captaincy test starts now, he has been the most successful captain in the Indian Premier League but now in crisis, he should step up and perform as a true leader because performance in the league like IPL doesn’t matter but performing for country matters a lot. As true a Indian player Rohit should know this.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar also should perform as an all-rounder, one should not forget that Bhuvi has batting skills. His gusty knock against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka gave India a series win, India had a good start but they collapsed to Akila Dananjaya’s spin. It was a brave effort from Bhuvi and MS Dhoni that allowed India to chase down that modest score.
Hardik Pandya hasn’t been that sensational like he was a few months ago, his performance against New Zealand wasn’t good and he continued that poor run against Sri Lanka. He should be ready for South Africa tour, by performing such miserably it won’t be easy for Kohli to trust Pandya. Hardik should step up, he is a talented all-rounder but he needs to prove that consistently.
As of now, India’s real strength lies in their bowling, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar have been sensational with the new ball and in-depth overs.
Hardik Pandya, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been good in the middle overs. Rohit can also think of Kedar Jadhav, Jadhav has the knack of picking up wickets. He has done it in the past and he can continue his good bowling form. He also can be an asset for One Day series against South Africa.
India likely Squad for the 2nd test –
India may drop Shreyas and Manish form their playing XI. Ajinkya Rahane and Kedar Jadhav may come as their replacement.
Rohit Sharma (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jhadav/Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel/Kuldeep Yadav.
Overall all India has a good record at PCA Stadium in Mohali, they have played 14 matches from 1993 to 2016. India has won 9 of them and lost only 5.
The last time when India and Sri Lanka played at PCA Stadium in Mohali was in 2005. India won that match by 8 wickets.
Sri Lanka will know this, they should continue to do what they did on Sunday at Dharamsala.
The Lankans Tigers bowled well, they will hope to continue that in the 2nd ODI.
But Sri Lanka has concern too, their top order hasn’t been performing well for a while now. They should sort that issue out.
Sri Lanka has a golden opportunity to seal the series at Mohali for that their top 3 should bat well.
Sri Lanka will depend on Danushka Gunathalika, Lahiru Thiramane and ex-Captain Upul Tharanga for runs on the board.
Their middle order is in decent touch after taking their side to victory at Dharamsala. Angelo Mathews and Niroshan Dickwella were in decent form after the Delhi test match.
Thisara Perera’s bowling form is also a concern for the visitors. Even though he picked up wickets on Sunday, but he wasn’t that accurate as his fellow bowlers.
A positive sign for Sri Lanka in that match was Angelo Mathews. His bowling was good, but the captain didn’t allow him to complete his full quota of 10 overs. His batting masterclass allowed Sri Lanka to win that game in Dharamsala.
Nuwan Pradeep, Akila Dananjaya and Sachith Pathirana are also in good nick, they supported Lakmal well in the first ODI and they will hope to continue that tomorrow.
Sri Lanka’s Predicted Squad –
The visitors may go with the same playing XI that played the first One Day International.
Tishara Perera, Upul Tharanga, Gunthalika, Thrimane, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Akila Dhananjaya and Sachith Pathirana.
