#RR still in the contention of the playoffs after their nail-biting finish against #CSK yesterday.
England’s best finisher was in charge of yesterday’s win over CSK – Chennai Super Kings.
Jos Buttler is the next best finisher in International cricket and yesterday he proved it right again. He has been sensational as an opener for RR – Rajasthan Royals.
Buttler has scored 4 consecutive fifties in this IPL season as an opener
With 3 of those he couldn’t get this team over the line but yesterday he stayed till the end and made sure that Rajasthan Royals go through the target of 176 runs set by Chennai Super Kings.
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first in Jaipur.
But the Super Kings couldn’t bat that well, CSK didn’t get the momentum to pile up a huge score on the board.
They did a big mistake by not picking up Faf Du Plessis in their playing 11.
Instead of Du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu was sent in as an opener. He and Shane Watson opened the innings for CSK.
After giving a decent start to the innings, RR bowler struck a huge blow to CSK.
They dismissed Rayudu for just 12 runs, Jofra Archer dismissed Raydu on a length delivery which he bowled outside off stump. Rayaudu stayed leg side to carve it through but the slow nature of the wicket didn’t allow him to do so. He got the inside edge because the ball didn’t come as quickly, he was clean bowled by the West Indian Archer.
After this wicket, Suresh Raina walked out to bat for CSK.
Unfortunately for CSK, the slow nature of the pitch didn’t suite Watson. He was found struggling as Raina did the bulk of the scoring.
Watson and Raina shared a partnership which took them over the 100 run mark but the innings didn’t get the momentum because Watson was found struggling.
The CSK duo added 86 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Raina was batting well, he adjusted to the pitch and the Jaipur conditions however, Watson found it tough.
After reaching the 100 run mark, Shane Watson’s struggle was ended by Jofra Archer.
Archer bowled a short delivery which Watson went to play the pull shot but he got the top edge and he was caught by Jos Buttler. Watson’s struggling cameo ended on 39 runs.
The old pair of Chennai Super Kings were out in the middle, the dangerous Raina and Dhoni batted for a bit.
Raina looked good, he reached his 34th IPL fifty and he also became the first player to score 300 runs in every IPL season.
This duo needed to stay long because they needed a big score against RR, but Raina was soon dismissed by Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi.
It was googly from Sodhi which Raina played with the sweep shot but he got a top edge to it. Raina’s good cameo was ended on 52 runs.
After the timeout, Sam Billings and MS Dhoni batted.
But Billings also couldn’t get going just like Watson.
Sam also struggled to adjust in this type of a slow pitch. But Dhoni was in form of his life, he got going and kept the score board ticking.
Billings and Dhoni added 55 runs which took the CSK score above the 160 run mark.
But Sam Billings was dismissed because of running out. Billing hit the last few balls well, unfortunately, he couldn’t be steady till the last ball. He was out in the last over, he scored 27 runs.
Chennai Super Kings reached the score of 176 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals bowled well, they used the slow surface and bowled some tight lines to the CSK batsmen.
Jofra Archer continued to impress, he took 2 wickets and Ish Sodhi also bowled well, he picked up 1 wicket to his name.
The chase of 177 runs was not easy but Rajasthan royally managed it.
It was only because of Jos Buttler that they chased down this score. The other batsmen came and went but there was no one who batted around Buttler.
Ben Stokes was sent as an opener in this match but he also couldn’t do much as an opener.
It was Jos Buttler who gave RR a good start as Ben was also found struggling due to the slowness of the pitch.
He was bowled by Bhajji after he got hit for 2 boundaries Bhajji came back strongly to dismiss Stokes.
It was a quicker one from Harbhajan which got him the wicket of Stokes. Ben Stokes was out after scoring 11 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane batted at number 3, but he too was out soon.
Ravindra Jadeja picked up the wicket of Rahane, it was length delivery which Jaddu got the good purchase from the wicket. Rahane edged the ball to the slips where Raina doesn’t drop those. Rahane was out for just 4 runs.
Sanju Samson was the next batsman for RR. He was also in good nick and continued that form in the middle.
Buttler and Samson repaired the innings with a small gusty partnership.
It was all looking the RR way when Buttler and Samson got going, but the terrible running between the wickets between Buttler and Samson gave them another blow.
Sanju Samson was run out and CSK were back into the contest. Samson was out for just 21 runs.
RR was struggling but thankfully Butter was still there.
As Prashant Chopra came to bat with Buttler, this IPL debutant impressed with his shot playing but he too was dismissed early.
Chopra was out to Shardul Thakur on a full delivery which was on pads, Chopra got the leading edge and he was caught by DJ Bravo at the short mid-wicket region. Prashant Chopra was out after scoring just 8 runs.
CSK struck some crucial blows but that didn’t bother Buttler. He went to fetch his 4th bigfifty on the trot, by doing so he equaled Virat Kohli.
Stuart Binny was the next man in for RR, he played a decent hand.
He and Buttler kept the scoring rate up to the mark. Binny too hit some lovely shots but his little cameo was ended soon.
After the timeout Binny was out to DJ Bravo, it was a full toss that Binny couldn’t get over the extra cover region, where Watson was standing. Binny was caught by Watson, he was out after scoring 22 runs.
Then came the stylish Krishnappa Gowtham, who played the cameo when RR needed it the most.
David Willey was the one who bowled the 18th over; Dhoni missed the trick here as well. Instead of Willey, Watson would have been a better choice.
And it turned it out as it was expected; Willey went for 16 runs in first 5 balls and allowed RR to make a good comeback.
He dismissed Gowtham but that wasn’t enough, Gowtham was out in the last ball of the 18th over. he was out after playing a brilliant cameo of 4 ball 13 runs.
Rajsthan needed 12 runs from the final over as Buttler faced some DJ music from Bravo.
It was a big six on the fourth ball of the over after 2nd and 3rd ball went for 2 runs each.
In this tricky chase Buttler held his nerves brilliantly, he also got some help from Watson on the second last ball when Watto had an unnecessary throw which gave two runs to the Royals and they won it with a ball to spare.
Buttler was tremendous for the Royals in this chase; he was unbeaten on 95 runs and took his side home.
Rajasthan Royals won the match by 4 wickets and 1 ball to spare.
CSK bowling was good but Willey’s 18th overtook the game away from them.
Willey, Harbhajan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and DJ Bravo took 1 wicket each to their name.
Jos Buttler was the man of the match for his excellent innings of 95 not out that too under pressure.
