#Rahane and #Samson lead #RR to a 10 run win over #DD.

The double D’s Delhi Daredevils took on the double R’s Rajasthan Royals in the 6th match of the Indian Premiere League season 11 played yesterday.

The whole 20 overs of play was not possible because the rain gods interrupted  the play.

Rajasthan could bat only for 17.5 overs in the 1st innings and Delhi got only 6 overs to bat in the 2nd.

DD won the toss and chose to bowl first in this encounter.

Rahane and D Arcy Short opened the innings for RR and Trent Boult opened the bowling for DD.

Arcy Short didn’t use this opportunity, after failing in his first game, he continued his poor form in this match. Short was out in the 1st over, it was a crazy mix up between Rahane and Short, but Vijay Shankar’s direct hit that did the job for DD.  Arcy was found short of his ground, he was run out for just 6 runs.

After the wicket in the 1st over, Ben Stokes the mighty England all rounder was promoted at number 3.

Stokes and Rahane stabilized the innings with a small partnership.

RR needed this crucial stand to go on. But in the fourth over,  Stokes was out to the Kiwi pacer Boult. It was a good length delivery with some extra bounce, this ball takes an outside edge and Pant took a sharp catch behind the stumps. Ben Stokes goes after scoring just 16 runs.

The ploy for promoting Ben Stokes didn’t work for RR but  it was persistence with Boult, that worked for Gambhir and DD.

After Ben Stokes’s fall, man in form Sanju Samson came to support skipper Rahane.

Rahane and Samson batted well together in this match, they shared a gutsy partnership of 62 runs which gave them the momentum to build a good score on the board.

As this partnership was progressing, it was threatening DD to take the game away.

DD was in search of a wicket quickly and that came after the time out. This pair batted almost for 6 overs but they couldn’t carry along nicely.

This important partnership was broken when Nadeem picked up his bunny Sanju Samson.

Samson was clean bowled by Nadeem, it was a tossed up delivery which Samson tried to go through the slog sweep but ended up getting an inside edge on to the stumps. Samson departed after scoring 37 runs.

Jos Buttler was the next batsmen in, Rahane was going on well at the other end. He was the key batsmen for RR.

But they needed Jos Buttler to explode and Rahane to stay till the end.

Buttler and Rahane batted for decent amount of time, they were in the process of building another partnership to help their cause.

But Rahane was out after playing so well, a quick and skiddy type of a delivery made Rahane to go for flick but he gets a leading edge and it went straight to Morris at point. Rahane departed after scoring 45 runs.

Rahul Tripathi was the next batsman for RR; he played well in this match.

Tripathi and Buttler made sure that RR reaches the 150 run mark; they both took on the DD bowlers and took them to that score.

DD lost the momentum and their bowlers lost their rhythm. They leaked runs and didn’t get the wickets of Buttler and Tripathi.

After reaching the 150 run mark, Buttler goes. He was out in the 17th over. He was bowled by Shami.

It was a brilliant delivery from Shami, a mix of Yorker and cutter delivery which Buttler tried to lap it away but missed it as it went on stumps and Buttler gets clean bowled. He goes after scoring 29 runs.

As Krishnappa Gowtham comes to bat, the rain gods also shower their blessings. The play was stopped and covers were put on.

After few hours of stoppage of play, the covers were taken off and it began but with revised conditions.

RR  ended their innings on 153 runs which they scored from 17.5 overs. RR lost 5 wickets in all.

DD bowlers did a decent job, but they couldn’t break the two important partnerships.

Shahbaz Nadeem took 2 wickets with Mohd Shami and Trent Boult took 1 wicket each for DD.

DD has got a revised target of 71 runs; they needed to get that in 6 overs. But they fell 10 runs short of that target.

Glenn Maxwell and Colin Munro opened for DD and RR opened their bowling with Gowtham.

But DD got a big blow in the first ball of their innings; Munro was run out by Gowtham/Buttler. Munro was out on 0.

After this quick loss Rishab Pant came in to bat with Maxwell.

They both added 34 runs after the loss of first wicket. These were going on well but Maxwell didn’t last long to help his team.

Maxwell was out in the 3rd over; Maxwell was early through the short on a finger rolled ball.  He gets a thick outside edge and Buttler makes on mistake. Maxwell goes after scoring 17 runs.

Chris Morris was the next batsman in, but he and Rishab Pant were together for only 1 over.

Rishab Pant was quickly dismissed after Maxwell. Pant couldn’t get under the full ball, he gets only the elevation but no distance. Gowtham takes a good catch to dismiss Pant for 20 runs.

DD were never in the chase, after losing Munro, Maxwell and Pant their other batsmen couldn’t bat well.

Vijay Shankar was also out quickly, he didn’t provide the support that Morris needed at the other end.

Shankar tried to go for a biggie short on a length ball. He skied it to long on region where Stokes catched it with ease. Shankar goes after scoring just 3 of 3 balls.

Morris couldn’t do much as he lost partners frequently. He was not out on 17 runs and Shreyas Iyer just came in, he was unbeaten on 0.

DD reached the 6 overs mark but they managed only 60 runs.

RR won the match by 10 due to D/L method.

RR did well to restrict DD. For them Ben Laughlin took 2 wickets and Jaydev Unadkat took 1 wicket.

DD had their moments but they didn’t use them and RR created their opportunities and won comfortably.

Sanju Samson batted well, his partnership with Rahane was the turning point in this match. He was awarded man of match for his knock of 37 runs.
