India has won their maiden T20 Series against New Zealand. This win came because of good bowling by the Indian spinners and pace bowlers.
Just like the last T20 International against Australia was abundant due to rain in Hyderabad, this series-deciding match was also threatened because of the rains.
The match should have been started by 7 PM according to the Indian Standard Time, but it was delayed due to the wet outfield.
It was some excellent work from the staff and grounds-men of the Greenfield International Stadium, it’s because of them that play was started after so much of delay.
The umpire inspected the pitch and finally, the play was started. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first.
But the overs were reduced due to the loss of time. Both the teams got 8 overs to play and win this deciding match.
Indian openers got off to a good start, they scored 15 in 2.2 overs. But it was Tim Southee who gave the Kiwis an important breakthrough.
Southee gave India a double blow; he picked up Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in consecutive balls.
Dhawan was out after 6 runs and his partner Rohit scored 8 runs.
India was scoring at a good run rate but they also lost the wickets at regular Intervals. After losing Dhawan and Rohit early, skipper Kohli needed to stay with Shreyas Iyer but he too was dismissed in the 3rd over.
Virat Kohli was out to Ish Sodi for 13 runs.
India needed someone to stay till the end, but that was easier said than done. Shreyas Iyer too was out to Ish Sodhi after making just 6 runs.
India was in trouble, Manish Pandey and Hardik Pandya provided some resistance, these two youngsters took India to a decent total.
But sadly Manish couldn’t finish the innings on a high; he was the top scorer for India in this innings. He was out in the last over. Pandey scored 17 runs.
India reached a decent score, the hosts scored 67 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 8 overs.
New Zealand bowled well, Tim Southee was spot on. He picked up 2 wickets and gave away just 13 from his allotted 2 overs.
Ish Sodi and Trent Boult were a good support to Southee. Ish Sodhi picked up 2 wickets and Trent Boult picked up 1 wicket to his name.
Chasing 68 run target for the series victory, the visitors were never in the hunt.
Indian bowlers were on the mark, they didn’t repeat that same mistake which they did at Rajkot a few days ago.
Bhuvi and Bumrah were spot on just like the first match they played in Delhi.
Bhuvneshwar gave India the first breakthrough in form of Martin Guptill. Bhuvi clean bowled Martin for just a single digit score.
Bumrah too joined the action, he picks up the wicket of centurion Colin Munro for just 7 runs.
Skipper Kane Williamson too couldn’t last long, he was brilliantly run out by Hardik Pandya for just 8 runs.
New Zealand was in trouble after losing 3 quick wickets, but Colin De Grandhomme and Glenn Philips stayed there to bring the target closer.
Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav played his first international match after Mumbai ODI, picked up the wicket of Glenn Philips for 11 runs.
New Zealand got two more setbacks in form of Henry Nicholls and Tom Bruce. They scored 2 and 4 respectively.
Hardik Pandya was good again in the field. His direct throw saw Tom Bruce short of his crease. Bruce scored 4.
New Zealand’s in the experienced lower batting order was exposed by the Indian bowling unit.
They needed a player like Ross Taylor or Corney Anderson to tackle this issue. These two would have played a role as a finisher also.
New Zealand needed 18 runs off the last over but they managed to score only 12. Colin De Grandhomme and Mitchell Santner couldn’t take New Zealand to a victory. They fell short by 6 runs.
India won the match by 6 runs and takes the series 2-1.
This win is their first series win against New Zealand in T20 Internationals. Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to win a T20 series against the Black Caps.
The Indian bowlers did a great job for their team, they were under pressure, but they didn’t allow that to affect them.
Jasprit Bumrah was the star for India with the ball; he took 2 wickets and conceded only 9 runs from his 2 overs spell.
Bhuvi and Kuldeep were the other 2 wickets takers. They took 1 wicket each to their name.
Hardik Pandya was also good, he didn’t pick up any wickets but his run outs change the game towards India’s favor.
One must also include Rohit Sharma’s brilliant catch to dismissColin Munro. India was good on the field yesterday.
Jasprit Bumrah was the man of the match and man of the series for his wonderful performance.
