#India and #Sri #Lanka to play in the opening match of the #T20I Tri Series.
The first match of the Nidahas Trophy is between the two Asian Giants, India and Sri Lanka.
They shall again face each other in the T20I battle starting from the Tuesday 6th March 2018 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
India will look to continue their dominance against the Lankans at their home soil. On their previous tour to Sri Lanka, India white washed the Lankans tigers across all the formats.
That Indian team was led by Virat Kohli, in his absence Rohit Sharma has the responsibility to lead this young team.
With Kohli, MS Dhoni, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah also have been rested for this Nidashas Trophy.
This India team is filled with young and exciting talents. These players have earned their international call up due to their amazing performance in the IPL and in the domestic season.
Rishab Pant, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar have been named for this series.
Rohit Sharma will have to do really well in the absence of their regular stars; he should also set a good example as a leader in front of these emerging stars.
For that Hit Man should perform with the bat. His performance in the South African tour was not great by means of his standards.
He will have to put that poor series behind and use this opportunity to play well against the Lankans. Rohit has a good record against Sri Lanka, he needs to rediscover his lost touch from this 1st T20I game.
With skipper Sharma, KL Rahul should open the innings instead of Dhawan. Dhawan also needs rest like his other senior members and KL Rahul is also struggling for form. Rahul is proper opening batsman, if he opens with Rohit than it would be good for him.
India has experimented with KL Rahul at the number 4 batting position. Unfortunately it didn’t work.
Rahul has done a decent job while opening the innings in T20I matches. He should continue to open in this Nidahas Trophy.
In the absence of Virat Kohli, the number 3 slot is open for Suresh Raina now. He did well in South Africa. After Rohit Sharma’s early fall Raina and Dhawan have held the innings together in all the 3 matches.
He will hope to continue that good form in this series. Still many believe that Raina can be India’s answer to the number 4 woes, Kohli and the team management should of Raina at that batting position.
But for this series the number 4 slot can be given to Dinesh Karthik or Rishab Pant. Both are talented players, if one considers the seniority wise Dinesh Karthik will bat at number 4 and Rishab Pant may get the number 5 slot.
These players should use this opportunity and play well in this series. Currently, India is looking for a back up wicket keeper batsman in T20I, if these two play well then one of them can play for India again.
Deepak Hooda is in line of making his debut in this series. But the question is where he will bat? He can be a finisher and bat at number 6.
India doesn’t have Hardik and Bhuvneshwar to finish the innings this time, so young Deepak Hooda should take up this responsibility and do the job.
India’s bowling looks talented but they are inexperienced. Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur are the ones who should lead the pace bowling attack. They should take the new ball in the absence of Bumrah and Bhuvi.
Mohd Siraj, Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal can operate in the middle overs.
India are better off than Sri Lanka and favourites to start the series on a winning note.
India Likely Playing XI –
India should give a chance to KL Rahul.
Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Rishab Pant, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohd Siraj, Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur.
Sri Lanka on the other hand will have a tough road ahead. They have not won against India in their home series and when they toured India few months ago.
They need to play with the positive intent in this Nidahas Trophy, this positive intent was lacking in the 2 series which they lost very badly.
With Dinesh Chandimal back as the captain, the Lankans will look to play with their fighting sprites.
Dinesh Chandimal has been an inspirational leader for Sri Lanka. He is the one who has always fought for his team. Chandimal is the most consistent player for Sri Lanka across all the formats. The hosts will be thrilled to play under him again.
But he has a tough job to do, with captaincy he will have to hold the innings together.
The openers are weak and the middle order is not experienced, so it is on Chandimal to play a long hand in this series.
Without Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka will find difficult to play the middle overs, especially when Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel are bowling to them.
If Sri Lanka wants to do well than Dinesh Chandimal should guide the Lankan innings through. Dinesh Chandimal holds the key for Sri Lanka in this match and the rest of the series.
Sri Lanka will also need the contributions from heir senior player Upul Tharanga.
Tharanga has been highly inconsistent across all the formats, but here the Lankans need him to step up.
The hosts also need the services of young talents like Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya De Silva.
These players hold the key for Sri Lanka in the middle overs. They should bat well and support their Skipper Dinesh Chandimal.
The bowling also looks inexperienced, the hosts will miss Lasith Malinga in their bowling department.
Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep will have to deliver with the new ball. They are experienced enough to take up that role.
And Sri Lanka will also require the services of their spin sensation Akila Dananjaya. They can’t afford his silence. Sri Lanka needs him very badly.
The Lankan tigers have a tough road ahead in this T20I series. India holds a psychological edge over the hosts.
Sri Lanka’s Likely Playing XI –
Dinesh Chandimal (Captain), Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Janith Perera, Thisara Perera, Suranga Lakmal, Akila Dananjaya, Nuwan Pradeep, Dushmantha Chameera/Dananjaya De Silva.
