The second team to qualify in this year’s Indian Premiere League is the Raising Pune Supergaints. They are now second in the points table with 18 points. Mumbai Indians are comfortably sitting on 1st position and Sunrisers Hyderabad is below the RPS in the 3rd position with 17 points.
In the all important match between the KXIP and RPS at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium the Kings XI Punjab batted first and batted very poorly.
The Kings XI surely missed the services and experience of veteran Hashim Amla. The Punjab team went with the same opening combo that faced the Mumbai Indians bowlers. Both the openers Martin Guptill and Warddhiman Saha didn’t start well. Pune’s Jaydev Undakat picks up the Kiwi opener Guptill for 0 in the very first over.
Aussie opener Shaun Marsh played at number for the KXIP. He struck the first boundary of the Punjab’s innings.
Luck was with Saha when MS Dhoni dropped him in the second over of Jaydev Unadkat’s bowling. Both the players, Marsh and Saha were on the course of building a good partnership but Shardul Thakur had some other ideas. Shaun Marsh was out for 10. Marsh tries to hit on the up and holes out to Smith on a good length delivery.
England skipper Eoin Morgan also couldn’t last long. He was run out by Unadkat on 4.
Warddhiman Saha was losing his partners at the other end. it was Jaydev Unadkat again picks up an another wicket. This time of Rahul Tewatia for just 4.
Skipper Maxwell joint Saha at the crease. But unfortunately he lasted only for 3 balls from Shardul Thakur. He was out on a golden duck.
Kings XI Punjab was in deep trouble, they lost 5 wickets inside 6 overs with just 32 runs on the score board.
All was left for experience campaigner Saha to do a big job with all rounder Axar Patel.
At 50 for 5 in the ninth over, Saha was out for 13 to Daniel Christian. This time MS Dhoni didn’t repeat the same mistake by dropping Saha.
In the spam of 2 overs it was another blow to KXIP, Axar Patel who was looking good edges one MS Dhoni for 22 of Daniel Christian’s bowling.
Punjab were on the verge of being owled out under 20 overs. They were losing wickets at regular intervals.
After Axar Patel’s wicket Swapnil Singh too didn’t trouble the scorers. He was out for just 10. Mohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma didn’t hang around too much either. Adam Zampa finishes the job for the Raising Pune Supergaints by picking both the wicket Sharma’s in the same over.
The batting unit of Kings XI Punjab was bundle out for just 73 in just 15.5 overs.
RPS team had a fantastic outing with the ball. Shardul Thakur picks up 3 wickets and Jaydev Unadkat, Daniel Christian and Adam Zampa picked up 2 wickets each.
While chasing the target of 74, RPS got of to a decent start. but Rahul Tripathi couldn’t see his team through.
Later it was the captain Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane did a the job for their team. they both chased down the small total in just `12 overs. RPS won the match by 8 wickets and 48 balls to spare.
Man of the Match was awarded to bowler Jaydev Undakat for his wonderful bowler figure.
