Its #Bangladesh Vs #India in the final match of the #NidahasTrophy.
What a thrilling match it was, the two teams fought for the final spot from the bottom of their hearts.
The game was swinging like a see-saw, but Bangladesh held their nerve to clinch this one.
Bangladesh had a big boost ahead of this game, their star all-rounder was back in the side for this do or die game.
Shakib Al Hasan was back as a leader, he captained Bangladesh for this game.
Sri Lanka went with some horrible changes on their side; they chose to drop their lead pacers for this all-important game.
Sri Lanka dropped Suranga Lakmal and Dushman Chameera, these two pacers were replaced by Isuru Udana and Amila Aponso.
Shakib Al Hasan was back in the line up for Bangladesh, he was replaced by Abu Hider Roy in their playing XI.
Bangladesh allowed Sri Lanka to bat first in this match.
On this dry pitch, Bangladesh opened the innings with spin, came back man Shakib Al Hasan opened the bowling for Bangladesh.
For the hosts there was no Upul Tharanga for the opening slot, they stuck to the same opening combination of Danuskha Gunathalika and Kusal Mendis.
The first over was a good one for Bangladesh, Shakib bowled well in his comeback match. He conceded just 3 runs in that opening over.
But Rubel Hossain spoiled the next over; he didn’t capitalize the start given by Shakib.
Rubel was hit for 2 boundaries that brought the pressure back on the visitors.
After the silent first over Sri Lanka gained the momentum back in their innings, the openers were going on well.
Shakib came back in the 2nd and he gave a good breakthrough for Bangladesh, Gunathalika tried to take on Shakib’s tossed up delivery. Gunathakia’s top edges give an easy catch to Shabbir Rahaman at long on. Gunathalika goes for just 4 runs.
Man in-form Kusal Perera comes to the crease to join Kusal Mendis.
Both the Kusals wanted to repair the Lankan innings.
Mustifizur Rahaman came in and bowled the 3rd over, it was a brilliant over by Fizz just a leg bye was conceded. Kusal Mendis was under pressure, Kusal Mendis goes through the pull short of the short delivery which was bowled by Fizz, unfortunately, Mendis miss times it and Soumya Sarkar takes a straight forward catch at mid wicket. Kusal Mendis departs for just 11 runs.
The experienced Upul Tharanga comes in with Kusal Perera who was still at the crease.
Kusal Perera had played a fighting inning for Sri Lanka. It was an unusual innings from Kusal.
But Sri Lanka needed a big partnership to make a comeback, in Mustifizur’s next over Tharanga took a suicidal run which costs Sri Lanka his big wicket. Tharanga was run out by a combination of Mehidy Hasan and Fizz for 5 runs.
The hosts were in huge trouble, Kusal Perera needed someone to hang around.
Fizz removes Dasun Shanaka as well in his that over, Shanaka’s poor run continues he goes for a big heave outside the off stump, he gets a big fat edge and Rahim makes no mistake to dismiss Shanaka for a golden duck.
Jeevan Mendis also failed as he was out quickly after Shanaka. A flighted delivery from Mehidy Hasan, Jeevan goes for the sweep and gets a top edge. It was a dolly catch for Mustifizur. Jeevan goes for just 3 runs.
Sri Lanka 5 down for just 41 runs that too in the 9th over of the match.
Kusal Perera still there waiting for a perfect partner, then comes the skipper Thisara Perera, Thisara needed to play mature innings for Sri Lanka.
The two Pereras start the rebuilding process for the hosts; Kusal was the aggressor in this partnership.
Kusal took the Bangladeshi bowlers with ease; he used his good form and kept Sri Lanka in the hunt.
This partnership allowed the Sri Lankans to make a brilliant comeback in this match.
The Pereras added 97 runs for the 6th wicket, the Lankans were marching towards the 150 run mark that looked impossible when Bangladesh were forcing the errors on Sri Lanka’s batsmen.
Kusal Perera scored his 3th fifty in this Nidahas Trophy and his 5th T20 International fifty against Bangladesh, he has scored the most fifties against an opponent team in T20 Internationals.
The Bangladesh bowlers were on top but Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera changed that, their hitting was unmatched and the Bangladeshis struggled in the later part of the innings.
Bangladesh bowlers went for short deliveries that were not effective in front of the dual Pereras. They hit the short balls with ease. The bowlers missed the Yorker in the later overs that’s what melted them for runs.
Sri Lanka reached the 150 run mark due to this partnership.
In the 18th over Kusal Perera’s fighting innings was ended by Soumya Sarkar. Kusal went for the big hit as only two overs were remaining, this short had a fat leading edge and Mehidy Hasan takes a comfortable catch at long on. Kusal goes for well made 61 runs.
Soumya Sarkar breaks the 97 run stand between the two Pereras. This partnership is the second highest one for the sixth wicket in T20 Internationals.
Thisara Perera also complemented Kusal well, he was happy with ones and twos at the start but when he found his feet he also went after the Bangladeshis bowlers.
He scored his first T20 International fifty in this match. Thisara took 63 innings to score his first fifty in T20Is, MS Dhoni tops the list with 66 innings.
But Thisara Perera was out in the last over, Rubel’s back of a length delivery without pace does the trick for Bangladesh. Thisara losses the timing and spoons up in the air, Tamim Iqbal takes a good catch, Thisara Perera goes for well made 58 runs.
Isuru Udana and Akila Dananjaya score 9 of the last over, which took Sri Lanka to a decent score of 159 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Bangladesh lost the plot in the last few overs; they started off well but couldn’t end well.
Shakib bowled well but he could have bowled his full quota of 4 overs instead of bowling only 2 of them.
Shakib, Rubel Hossain, Mehidy Hasan and Soumya Sarkar took 1 wicket each, with Mustifizur Rahaman 2 wickets to his name but he expensive in his last few overs.
Sri Lanka broughr back the momentum in their favor, but they cant ride Bangladesh off because in the previous match the Bangla Tigers chased the 4th highest total in T20Is.
They were looking for a similar type of a chase this time.
Sri Lanka missed Suranga Lakmal at the start, the hosts didn’t start off well.
Tamim Iqbal scored 10 runs of the 1st over and gave a good start for Bangladesh.
But Liton Das didn’t use this opportunity he was the first one to go for a duck in the next over.
Liton Das goes for a big shot against Akila Danajaya but finds skipper Thisara at the mid-wicket region.
Sri Lanka strikes early as they should, Bangladesh promotes Shabbir Rahaman up the order.
Tamim and Shabbir bat well together for some overs, with boundaries they also rotate the strike well.
But Akila Dananjaya removes Shabbir Rahaman before he gets set. Rahaman was stumped by Kusal Perera behind the stumps.
Akila’s nicely floated delivery outside the off stumps allows Shabbir to come down the wicket and he lost his balance, Kusal Perera does the rest behind the stumps by whipping the bails off, Shabbir was stumped for 13 runs.
The man of the moment comes to join Tamim in this chase.
Bangladesh march on with their two dependable batsmen at the crease.
Rahim and Tamim shared a partnership of 64 runs which kept Bangladesh in the hunt.
But Mushfiqur Rahim was not there to finish the game this time, he departs after scoring 22 runs.
Rahim decides to take on the new bowler Aponso, he comes down the wicket to hit him down the ground but he only manages to hit it straight to Thisara Perera.
Soumya Sarkar comes to join Tamim, as Tamim bats well in this match.
He gets his 1st fifty against Sri Lanka in T20Is.
After getting to his milestone, Tamim Iqbal goes for a big shot over the cover region but the edges to Kusal Perera. Kusal takes a brilliant catch to dismiss Iqbal for 50 runs.
Mahmudullah comes to bat with Sarkar, but Sarkar was dismissed cheaply again, this time Sarkar was undone by the googly bowled by Jeevan Mendis. Sarkar was out for just 10 runs.
Bangladesh was just panicking, the target wasn’t that big to panic.
They needed Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan to fire.
Shakib bowled well in this match but the Bangla tigers wanted his batting services to see them through.
As Bangladesh was inching towards the target, they lost Shakib Al Hasan.
That was a big blow, Shakib’s good short went straight to the fielder. Shakib was out for 7 runs.
Bangladesh was in danger but they still had Mahmudllah at the crease.
Mehidy Hasan joined Mahmudullah but he couldn’t do much, he was run out because of an accurate throw from Shanaka. Hasan scored 0.
This match was an interesting one, Bangladesh still had a chance to win it all hopes were on Mahmudullah.
He needed Mustifizur to stay with him but another run out caused the trouble for Bangladesh.
Fizz was run out in the last over.
The Bangladeshis weren’t happy with that decision, Shakib wanted to call the two batsmen.
It was not good for the players as they engaged in the verbal spats. The Bangladeshis weren’t happy with the height of the ball as square leg umpire signaled it as a no ball.
But the play started off after sometime minutes. That was good to see.
Bangladesh needed 8 of three balls, Udana was the bowler who bowled the last over.
Mahmudullah took 2 in the 4th ball of the over, which meant Bangladesh needed 6 of the fifth ball.
Mahmudullah slaps it the 5th ball to deep square leg for six.
Bangladesh held the nerve to seal this match; the Bangla Tigers won the thrilling match by 2 wickets and 1 ball to spare.
The Lankans tried hard, as they couldn’t finish the game on a winning note. They should learn the art of finishing the games.
Isuru Udana, Gunathalika, Jeevan Mendis and Amila Aponso picked up 1 wicket each. With Akila Dananjaya picked up 2 wickets to his name.
Mahmudullah played an excellent innings, he played a role of a finisher in this match. He was awarded the man of the match for his excellent match finishing innings.
