Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election result in West Bengal could have been better if the state’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) had not used violence to influence the poll process, the national party’s MP from Rajya Sabha Roopa Ganguly said on Friday.
The BJP clinched 18 seats in the state, while 22 have been picked up Trinamool.
The BJP MP alleged, “People are tired of Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. Had the elections been held in a fair manner BJP would have won more than 30 seats here that is what Banerjee was afraid of, hence the violence in all seven phases.” Roopa Ganguly also expressed confidence that her party would return to power in those states it had recently lost out on forming the government.
The actress-turned-politician further asserted that there could be another flare up of violence created by Trinamool in those places where the BJP had not won even though they had done well.
