After essaying a fierce queen in ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’, Kangana Ranaut is all set to work on the second biopic in a row.
On Saturday, as the Bollywood actress turned 32, she announced that she would be essaying the role of legendary Tamil actress turned politician Jayalalithaa. The late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is fondly referred to as ‘Puratchi Thalaivi’.
The film will be a multilingual biopic. The film will be titled ‘Thalaivi’ in Tamil and ‘Jaya’ in Hindi and will be helmed by director Vijay, who has made landmark films in Tamil film industry like ‘Madrasapattinam’ and ‘Deiva Thirumagal’.
The biopic was announced on the 71st birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa in February. Talking about the venture and having Kangana on board, director Vijay asserted, “Jayalalithaa madam was one of the most prominent leaders of our country. Making a film on her life is a big responsibility and we are going to do it with utmost care and honesty. I am proud and happy with our association with Kangana Ranaut ji to portray the dynamic role of the leader.”
Speaking about the film, Kangana said, “Jayalalithaa ji is one of the biggest female success stories of this century. She was a superstar and went on to become an iconic politician. It’s a great concept for mainstream film. I am honored to be a part of this mega project.”
“I always wanted to work in regional films because when we go to Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh, we realize that people over there only watch films made by their local film industry. So there is a disconnect with that part of the country. I was waiting for a good opportunity to work over there and this film just came my way.”
The latest reports suggests that the actress will be paid Rs 24 crores for playing the role of Jayalalithaa.
‘Thalaivi’ will be written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, who has also penned super-hit Bolly ventures such as ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Manikarnika’. The film will be bankrolled by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh under the banners of Vibri and Karma Media and Entertainment.
